awakening (2004)

awakening (2004)

A Poem by Wesley Dingler
"

experimental poetry from when I was 19 and had just fallen in love with the works of Cummings

"

(now the ears of my ears awake and

now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

                                                -e.e. Cummings

more subtle than the moon adorning cosmic tides--

stranger than where a shooting star resides--

  distortion dies

  and luminosity takes

the wheel of a waking mind

and all this time I've been too blind to see

that everything I've searched

for was right in front of me

    but now, I'm awake

one more burning bridge that was never built--

just another empty glass of spilled milk--

  but somewhere out there

  a new-born rose

will grow in ten feet of snow

and all this time I've been too blind to see

that everything I've searched

for was right in front of me

but now, I'm awake--I think for good

guess sometimes it takes losing all you have

to find just what you need

I have not read much poetry in my life & didn't even consider myself a poet until starting here at the cafe 3 years ago. I remember reading ee cummings long ago, but barely. It's fun to have you reintroduce various ideas & poets to people with your inquiring way of exploring many different aspects of poetry. I really love the message in your poem & I can feel the yearning optimistic young spirit that might've written this (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

It is sad we must learn sadness to appreciate kindness.
"one more burning bridge that was never built--

I could write a epic poem from the above lines. Thank you Wesley for sharing the amazing poetry.
