Lovely senryu! It irks me when people call pieces such as these a haiku. Haikus relate strictly to nature; a senryu, human nature and events. This is a great SENRYU. Anyway, it seems pieces about current events are few and far inbetween. Thank you for sharing.

I took a very extensive study on haiku/senryu/5-7-5. A haiku, traditionally anyways, is strictly related to nature. Senryu is human natures and events. 5-7-5 is everything in between.

I love the Olympics so much. It's odd to me, but inspiring to see. All over the world we are fighting against each other for various reasons. But, we can all stop our hatred for a short while to join together in some friendly competition. It's really inspiring to see actually. Even though there's a lot of hardship around the world, even in the developed countries now because of the economy, all that bad stuff just goes away for a few weeks and our whole world just comes together in celebration.

I simply adored this olympics in london..

it probally helps because im not working now and was able to watch practically all of it for the last two weeks.. i can wait for the closing ceremonies tonight.. time delayed for us in the US..

Since it really was not publicized as much as it should have been, I would like to share one overlooked Olympian's story to prove how true your point is. Erick Barrondo, a man living in poverty in Guatemala's rural highlands, brought home Guatemala's first ever Olympic medal with a silver in the 20km race-walk. It was the only Olympic medal won by a Central American nation this year. He bought his parents their first tv prior to leaving for London, so they could watch the events. His win has already inspired his nation, and they are calling for a national day of celebration to mark his return. His statements after winning the silver were that he hoped his win inspired kids to put on a pair of training shoes instead of taking up guns and gangs.

We take it in the first world as an absolute that we will win medals and break records... but for many other nations, the athletes support their own training and it is a huge honor and inspiration to their countrymen for them just being there in the first place.

But,its spirit will continue.
The next Olympics will be held at Rio de Janeiro,the capital of Brazil in 2016.
