Background:

When he was seven, Astare was running after a basketball that had gotten loose from the local park's basketball court. He tipped over his shoelaces and fell. A man on a riding lawnmower didn't noticed and ran over his left arm.

Astare was rushed to the hospital but there was nothing the doctors could do. They had to amputate his left arm right above the elbow.

Astare never let his injury hold him back from what he wanted to do. He never curses it either. He always says that he is thankful it wasn't his shooting hand. He is one of the best basketball players around.
