Fortune

Fortune

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Seuss Style #2

"

In Hollyville they always dine

On sautéed figs and truffled wine

They sit at tables dressed in gold

Counting riches twenty-fold

While on the other side of town

In Hollyburg, THEY all sit down

To humble bread and ale buffet

Counting blessings every day

If you could, you just might wish

To partake in the ville-side’s dish

But treasures can be overdone;

Among so much, you value none

You see, when simple pleasures reign

You worry not about more gain

And every sunrise is a thrill

When hearts are all you need to fill

Okay, I'm going to say this for the umpteenth time "Your poetry is too great to be this short". You always leaving me wanting more. Perhaps this is your plan and if so it works perfectly. I love how you took this wonderful message and gave it pizzazz(bet you haven't heard this word in awhile) dressed it up and out in a real world situation.

Such truth in your words. A full heart is truly all we need.

I like all kinds of poetry, but I confess that rhyming is my preference and I really enjoyed reading this.

Thank you, Beccy. I think rhyming is fun, and it's a challenge to get a message out in rhyme. :)
of the few times I tried a rhyme scheme in a poem I was stopped by the task of finding
a word of a particular sound and that both corresponds and makes sense. You are a wonderful
writer in both rhyme and reasonings.

well done rita...dana

Your welcome Rita !! It's very true!!
You are Dr Seuss incarnate, I adored the rhyming in this, especially in the first stanza and the penultimate stanza, they're divine. As for the topic, it's a very refreshing one, when it comes on to gifts, sometimes less is more. Great poem this, with a valuable lesson to take from it.

Thanks, Rocans! You know Seuss is a favorite of mine, so I wanted to do his style justice.
Love it … you nailed his style with this one. The moral is essential.

Thanks, Pryde. I do a lot of rhyme, but Seuss is so much more...
A worthwhile rhyming lesson in this one....a la Dr. Suess! It is so true, the simple things in life...the ones which we can not purchase for any amount of money....and indeed the most valuable. Wonderful work here. Lydi**

Thanks so much, Poppy!
I have heard a bit about you from Dale and my goodness, you are quite the comedian. This was very entertaining. I should have guessed a Dr Seuss poem would be the first one Dale pointed out to me. Very wonderful, Rita.
