American Eagle

American Eagle

Imbalance has me grounded

I’m no longer geared for flight ~

To fly I need two steady wings,

But mine are in a fight

My right wing’s far too rigid,

Can’t take the winds of change

My left wing’s loosey-goosey,

A reach that’s really strange

I wonder if it’s wingspan ~

So far, from edge to edge

That each side hears only itself

As both proclaim the Pledge

I’m praying for a miracle

To end this inner war

When right and left find balance,

I’ll finally get to soar

Hi Rita. It's been a while since I have visited the Café, so of course, I wanted to see what you are up to. Your poem is so appropriate for the times. Politics have me so stressed, that even after the elections opposing sides are making it worse than ever before and I am sick of it. Your poem speaks to how most normal Americans feel today. As usual, you are able to wrap up your message in perfect meter and rhyme. Your poem reminded me of a quote I saw during election season, "What if I told you the left wing and the right wing belong to the same bird?" It would be nice if people remembered that. This is an inspiring write.

Nice, one! Great analogies.

Politics over people every time; right, left, it's the agenda that rules rather than looking and seeing that what the vast majority of folk really want is harmony.

Brexit was our problem this year; I've never seen so many babies kissed and impossible to keep promises made in the run up to the vote. :))

Thanks, Tammy!
All people can relate to the inner struggle for balance. I'm glad to see you ended it with hope. Now for the political show I'm not so sure.

And yet, I remain hopeful still... ;) Thank you, Cherrie!
Very polarised indeed with deep partisan quarreling. This election cycle made it even worse. An excellent analogy of the Eagle and the nation. God bless...:)))))

Thanks, A!
It becomes sadder every year how the politicians fight for power than they do the people.

Your bold and brash poem is very true. This is how every American should feel right now.
