Welcome to the Pack

Welcome to the Pack

A Chapter by Emett
"

Bri is welcomed into James' pack with open arms.

"
I walked out of the library and Louise sees me with little Bri.
“Who’s that special belong to James and why are you carrying it?” Louise says as she eyes Bri up and down. Calvin glances over and replies for me,
“ Louise it’s obvious, he’s claimed the youngling. James you’ve taken up the big responsibility on yourself. If you have any questions come to us immediately. For anything.” He gave me a stern look.
“ I will, thanks Calvin, Louise. See you guys tomorrow.” I say in a rush. I know if I don’t hurry I’ll be late, then Joey’ll get pissy and demand a pint of ice cream. I started off in a sprint than switched into a light jog. I looked down and saw that Bri looked a bit uncomfortable and started to stir. I slow down to a walk so I could talk to her,
“I should tell you Bri, you have an older… let’s say sibling. They’re name is Joey. They’ll help take care and protect you.” Bri coo’s and clicks in interest, “Bri can you fly?” Bri clicks in response and moves in my arms. I put her down and she starts to beat her wings, at first she started to hover and now she’s soaring around me in the air. “Well that answers that. Why don’t you follow me from up there?” If she can fly, we can make it a bit early. As we get closer to the Chocolate Shoppe Bri swoops down next to me and changes into a wolf cub. I spot Joey by the entrance and I signal to an outdoor table. Joey sees me and nods, her gaze shifts down to Bri and she stands there stunned, with wide eyes. Wider than when she looks at an extra olive and cheese pizza with stuffed crust. She bolts toward us and stops. Joey looks at me, then at Bri, then back at me, she points at Bri and says
“ Who is this and why does it look like you’ve claimed her?” I take my phone out and start to explain,
“Hey, so this is Bri, I found her abandoned in the library so I decided to claim her and make her a part of our family.” As I spoke Joey nodded and looked at Bri. Joey was also in the form of a wolf and spoke to Bri,
“Hello Bri, my name is Joey. Welcome to the team. I want to make something clear.”, Joey pointed her paw at me and said, “ He is the alpha and I am the Beta. You do as we say. I’ll teach you all you need to know.” Bri looked up at Joey and gave a timid but determined nod. I looked at both of them and gave them a soft and encouraging smile...well the best one I could summon. As I made my way into the ice cream shoppe I asked Joey,
“Did you find out where they hang out? Or any information at all?” I walk up to the counter and ordered a pint of cookie dough and one of mint chip.
“No, nothing, I think they just stay in the classroom with their humans.” Great, that’s perfect.
“Thanks for trying Joey. You deserve this ice cream.” I tell her, I start to eat and Joey gets a look of satisfaction, the look that only ice cream can bring to someone. Bri looks at me while she opens and closes her mouth. What I noticed in the past is that when a human claims a special some sort of connection is established. I’m not sure how or why, but when humans eat, or when we feel a powerful emotion the specials can also feel it. I eat one pint and save the other for later. I look at the time and it’s 3:30pm, luckily for us there’s a bus stop nearby and the bus that goes close to my house stops there. I look at my two satisfied specials and say,
“Let’s head to the bus stop. There’s something I want to tell you.” As we walk to the bus stop I tell Joey what Louise and Calvin told me. At first she looks stunned, but then it slowly changes to fear. I ask her, “What’s wrong, have you heard of people like that? I know their names but nothing else. I haven’t contacted them yet.” As I’m talking Joey looks around nervously.
“Have you noticed anything James, I have a bad feeling... I need… A BATHROOM!!!” Joey starts to shriek and dash to the nearest shrubs. Bri looks confused and then it sinks in, the realization that Joey turns into a ticking time bomb after ice cream.
“You okay Joey?” I ask tentatively
“Ugh...nope...sorry...just...It’ll be awhile.” Joey is definitely not getting any ice cream for awhile. We had to wait a solid 10 minutes for Joey to be, relieved.
“Well James, sounds like
you’re not alone. What do you want to do?” Joey looks at me, her eyes piercing into me, looking for any sign of absolute certainty of my decisions. Bri glances back and forth between Joey and I, curious and concerned on my decision. If I decide to contact these people and they turn out to be fakers it would be troublesome to deal with. These people could be religious confusing what they see to be “supernatural”. I’ll just hold on it for now.
Since Joey was... relieving herself, we missed the first bus and the next one won't come by for about 15 minutes.
“I'm not going to call them for now. Let's just go home, I want some pasta.”
