I was reading that we all want to do good deep down. We also want to be part of something that will hopefully make some kind of positive difference. At the same time we may not want anything in return per se (unless it's a business of course. Haha) but do want it to be worth our time or money. We'd like to feel some kind of fulfillment in the end too. Not be worried we were used for false pretenses.
