HOW I LOST MY MIND

HOW I LOST MY MIND

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

a mystery....

"

HOW I LOST MY MIND

I hustle along a busy street

Mind congested to pen a poem

Drink some latte at a local café

The day drags with gloom, scattered showers

Though I have radiant sun in my psyche

The café riddles with commotion and chatter

Some gloomy faces at their laptops

I search for an empty table in the back corner

Next to, a young woman who glances at me, then winks

Startled, I moot whether to appreciate

Meanwhile my brilliant concepts to write gradually fade

I seek another table

yet not far enough from this strange woman

still, she sparkles like a diamond ring

I glance at her, she winks again

At once, my notions to scribe perish

Too much perplexity

It breaks my integral thought process

Gone is the poetry I so crave to compose

Shall I engage with her?

I am in disarray

Soon I approach, request to sit with her

She hands me a big smile

We chat for moments

I laugh all the while as never before

Suddenly she takes off with a smile and a wink

And drops a piece of crumpled paper on the floor

Strange how certain gestures
from others can throw our
thought process out of order
A simple act of kindness
perhaps taken out of context
perhaps she was trying to
write also .at any rate a poem
was created ..and a darn good
one at that..nice work

People can actually be pretty pleasant at times. Always a pleasant shock to me when they are, but I do love it. It proves to me that not everyone in the world is bad.

thank you Beckie for stopping by to review my poem, much appreciated.

I think the poem did come...I think she was your muse...and she was in control of the situation...
maybe poetry is just a distraction from real life....at least I think it might be for me.
This poem had me fully engaged in the moment, in the scene...
