Sleeping Baby

Sleeping Baby

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

The cycle of life

"
Sleeping  baby.

Sleeping  child.

Waking teen

going wild.

Barely legal,

young and free,

judging parents

like you and me.

Grandma waiting

for the news.

A momma crying

as baby coos.

Mother young

relives her past

with a sleeping

babe at her breast.

this is precisely what you say it is my friend, a simple, flowing demonstration and dedication to the cycle of life, penned near to perfection

You're welcome. :)
How did I miss this, Cherrie? For mothers, time must past pretty quickly at times, precious times from arms filled to arms empty .. sadness mixed with absolute pleasure. You've written this in such a way I feel as if each word or each phrase is yet another portion of passing time. And, then, dear friend, you close with those last four lines.. ...

Beautiful writing, fragile, sad but... memorable, Cherrie.

Strange how that happens, a gift from nowhere that comes before it arrives! Yes? zzz now..
Such a playful nature bout this poem. The shortness of the poem is perfect in displaying how fast life can feel like.

Short poem= Oh man I wish I had thought of that.
:) thank you
I love the rhythm in this and the rhyme it lends itself to the circular feeling of the story of the cycle perfectly! all clever writing in this one. Us male bunny's only get to look from the outside in wonder of the cycle you mothers create which is sort of a hint as to who is truly the fairer sex is in the bunny's eyes

Yes, they're both gone and those memories are dear to me.
your form struck me straight away ...after the title ... who does not love a sleeping baby!? ;) the short precise lines form a column ... something strong buildings are held up by ... the theme is universal and easy to follow ... the intimacy i feel in this starts at the first line ... builds .. and throws that "wild" teen curve ball ...parents know so well ... and many times swing and miss :( but we play the game .. find out the rules as an after-fact ... and love those grand babies ... and carry our own pain as well as our childrens' ... beautifully ... simply .. emotive for me .. well done says i!

so true .. no book can be written ... but most make it eh!? lovin' on ya Cherrie! :)
For some reason, this piece saddened me.
Maybe it's because grown children no longer seem like your kids; they've somehow quickly morphed into mere close acquaintances.
Eloquently written, Cherrie.

I like how minimal this is but with a very clear story from beginning to end it is truly the cycle of life

Thank you Fabain for stopping by and taking the time to read my poem. It really means a lot to me.
Cherrie,
Nicely done! Sometimes these vertical poems are meant for a piece like this. Yes . . . the cycle of life!

Cherrie, in those few short lines you took me back 25 years, seeing this unfold in my own family. Truly a gift to create such a scene with so few poetic words.
