Rise and Shine

Rise and Shine

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

Slowly I snaked my arm from beneath the covers,

and hit snooze.

What is ten more minutes?

I ask myself,

 with eyes still closed.

A Friday morning must for one thing.

Time to contemplate the day.

While waiting on the automatic coffee pot.

Dolly my miniature Aussie nudges me.

“Rise and shine sleepyhead,”

I imagine her to say.

groaning at her.

In reply she wines, nudging me once again.

Reminding me that the day pivots around my rising,

so, I do.

I thank the Lord for this new day.

Asking him for grace enough to cover it.

Good morning Ken and thank you.
A wonderful little snippet of life and I picked a Friday to read it, that made it perfect.

Thank you for stopping by, glad you liked it.. read more
Your opening line is most brilliant, Cherrie. I have three noses nudging me every morning, so the snooze bar gives me little reprieve. I love the simplicity of this, something we all can relate to. Much enjoyed!

I'm kinda partial to the simple k.i.s.s. approach myself 😊
Aw, that snooze button. How I relate Cherrie. An extra ten minutes of bliss before rising to face a new day. Not always easy to depart from a warm and cosy bed. I enjoyed your lines.

I use to spring up out if the bed. Now with each new day I seem to move with a slower intent.
What would the day be without us. No one to enjoy the sun or mark the day. Friday has a feel. Fun to read how you feel about Friday.

Every now and again I feel that way on Monday as well 🙃
This is so me. This is so relatable. Often, the snooze button seems so welcoming in the morning when one would rather retreat into sleep than face yet another day. But as you so beautifully said, the day pivots around your rising and so it is. It's only right to thank the Lord for the new day and pray for his grace and mercy. Absolutely loved your message!

Thank you Tony 😊 sorry Iit took me so long to reply. I missed it some how.
That last line is a great closer. Its a beautiful day and the smile is beaming perfect. Sometimes everything clicks and its a moment to yourself and you laugh, grin or giggle but its yours. Nice work Cherrie.

The is such a ski;ful, delightful and somewhat familiar morning scene.. love it, Cherrie! Mornings need such creature comforts, as you say,

' While waiting on the automatic coffee pot.
Dolly my miniature Aussie nudges me.
“Rise and shine sleepyhead,”
I imagine her to say.
