Could you ever imagine running through a battlefield carrying pitchers of water repeatedly? Well, Molly Pitcher did. Molly Pitcher was a lady who fought in the Revolutionary War. She got the nickname, Molly "Pitcher", because she was known for bringing the soldier's water. In my opinion, she is a leader not a follower.
Molly was born Oct. 13, 1744 in Carlisle, Penn. She died Jan. 22, 1832 in the same place she was born. Her husband was a barber named William Hays. He was also a soldier in the Revolutionary War,
During the war, William was helping a group of soldiers shoot a cannon. Suddenly a ball from a British musket came tumbling down and hit William. Molly quickly stood up and took his place. She kept firing until it was night. The British eventually surrendered, and the battle was over. Some said she may have fought in other battles. Many also said she swore like a soldier.
In 1822 Molly Pitcher was given a pension by the Pennsylvania legislature for recognition of here heroism, In other words when she was 70 she got 40 dollars a year because of her bravery. Molly Pitcher dedicated her time to fight for her country. After the war Molly was her normal self again. She cleaned houses, took care of children, and did other house work. Molly was ahead of her time because what she did was rare and brave@
     The British had surrendered.
