My Internal Critic Sounds Like Everyone I’ve Ever Known

My Internal Critic Sounds Like Everyone I’ve Ever Known

A Chapter by Dina

Okay, so maybe it isn’t exactly a proper living arrangement. But I was today years old when I learned that Airbnb’s offer rentals. I mean, if it looks like a room rental, and smells like a room rental, it must be a rental. Right? Or atleast that’s what I tell myself. I like the self check-in. No awkward, forced interactions? Ace in the hole!

I chuck my suitcase up the flight of squeaky stairs. There’s an upstairs too. It has a roof window. My childlike wonder compels me to abandon my suitcase for a moment, just to see what lies further along the path. There are just a few other rooms. I guess I’ll have roommates then.

Turning the key feels as nerve wracking as I imagine it would for first time home buyers. I can feel my heart sinking into my core. This is it. My new found freedom. A new beginning. Or am I just running again?
