Not So Self-Aware Genie

When in doubt, google is a good substitute. “Why do I like dominant people so much?”

The results are astounding. As I scan through several articles, there seems to be a general consensus that gets established. “People who tend to be more submissive tend to prefer and pair well with more dominant phenotypes.”

Submissive? Me? Never. Doesn’t even sound possible. I’m one of the most independent people I know. I don’t even think I know how to depend on anyone. I’m physically strong. I speak rather boldly at times. The last thing anyone would think when it comes to me is that I’m submissive.

But still, an ounce of doubt lingers. So I text a few friends for a second, and perhaps third opinion.

“Do you guys think I’m submissive?”

A mass text goes out with urgency. I stare at my home screen as if my life depends on it as I wait for a response. The first message comes in.

“Yes. Definitely. But that’s why I love yoooouuuuu xxxx.”

Then the next response

“I would say so, yeah.”

And by the third response, I feel like a complete imposter. Why does the general consensus seem to point towards yes. And as someone who’s supposed to be a self aware genie, why does it seem like I’m the last to find out?
