Why For Art Thou, Juliet...?

Why For Art Thou, Juliet...?

A Poem by Devons

Nothing inspires her like love
And nothing is what she writes
but in oh so many words
Nothing is what she's left with
After one more torrid affair
but she puts it into words
Then, having squeezed nothing dry
Like a cloth, she uses it again
repeating the process - in words
Different words, that is, of nothing
Conveying less, but thinking more
in 1-D, metaphorically: words
And nothing x12 poems later
She'll meet a new man once more
and he'll whisper 'sweet nothings'...
in words.

we all know these people (because it isn't just women who are so susceptible to the hedgemaze of words) .. they fall in love with the idea of love, never moving past the initial dipping of the toes. they get their satisfaction out of the chase, out of the glory of that initial glow. sad, because where i think the real love lies, where i think the real satisfaction comes in, is when you have moved past that heady narcotic stage, and into whether or not you can actually STAND the person once you've smelled their unbrushed morning breath. lol

Then, having squeezed nothing dry
Like a cloth, she uses it again
repeating the process - in words

that is a masterful stanza.. the image is dead on perfect. and i actually pictured the woman's actions in my mind..

I had to come back and re read this. It is just so touching and relate-able. At least it speaks to me... she could be me without much of a stretch, I think.

I liked this piece. Specially the last line
"and he'll whisper 'sweet nothings'...
in words."
In my opinion, it means that the new man will probably bury her in compliments etc...but never actually DO anything as a partner, example offering a helping hand when needed.

That's great.. :).. funny too...
the entire poem..and the last stanza particularly...stupendous.

This speaks volumes past what is seen on the page. I think you wrote about the subject exactly as you needed to. I like the degree of separation.

I love the repetition of "words" at the end of each stanza, and the way you separated it into its own line in the last stanza. I really liked the 1st and 3rd stanzas. Very creative and very true for so many.

they are, after all the currency of amour.

at least for me.

thinking of king lear (that damn esperanto again) and "nothing comes from nothing. speak again."

why would we need to repeat? well, all of nature is cyclical, isn't it?

awesome poem and i like how you repeated the word "word'' throughout the piece. and i do think that you are right. love makes you do some pretty dumb things. and this was a great poem to read. it flowed really nicely and was structured well also.

(and this has nothing to do with your poem but this fact makes me very happy. i've written the 17th review)

Great title- if it wasn't for the read request it would have still drove me in. Studying English in school I actually had a bit of trouble understanding it. After knowing the character of Juliet so well it dawned on me as to it's real meaning. She's attracted to Romeo just by the stupidity of his words, she is a flat character. Love does really make you do the unexplainable- in this case taking her own life because of the "sweet nothings" he continues to keep feeding her brain. You're right. Woman are full of love- it's all they talk and write about. After that talk of yours, I see where this was going! Awesome write.
