She stole the light then painted white all summer's fading green..

She stole the light then painted white all summer's fading green..

A Poem by Gee
"

Autumn..More simple stuff !!

"
She chased away the summer sun
bringing skies of leaden grey,
drew night time curtains early eve
stole light from every day.

And with a chill breath stirred the air
loosed leaves from tired limbs,
replaced the chorus of the dawn
with crisp and frosted hymns.

This rousing those intent on sleep
to gather up and store,
fallen fruit to see them through
behind hibernations door.

Then once content her work well done
she silently did go,
inviting winter take her place
to blanket all in virgin snow.

At first I thought you were talking about a person....one who literally sucks the oxygen out of a room. Then I realized you were talking about Mother Nature. Great personification. The flow and rhyme are flawless. Such beautiful imagery! Lydi**

Thank you Lydia
Winter used to be my favorite time of year. The older I get, however, the less I like it. Like an old, settling house, my bones creak with the cold, aching for the warmth of spring. I don't like having to travel in it either. I'm perfectly content to stay in the confines of my warm house in the winter. When it snows, I do love the white blanket tucked in the corners, undisturbed by man. I know it won't be long before the stirring deer and birds will leave their imprints in the snow though, and I'll have to put on my boots and make way to the bird feeder to make sure that none go hungry. I think this is a beautiful poem, the title as majestic as snow on the pines.

Thank you kindly
humanity has stolen my fall and it pisses me off... the season i love the most is battered, bruised in its brevity and almost non existent anymore truly at times I am grateful it even gets coldish but in the region i live in its character is seriously foreign to me anymore. Often I am bereft of my autumnal stirrings in a person's lifespan one should not be able to measure such difference without being deeply alarmed

Thanks for dropping in Robert, always appreciated.
Have just returned from yours :))
I love reading the comments here. It’s such a different way you guys over on the other side of the Atlantic view the autumn. For me it’s a welcome relief. Seems a harbinger of darkness, in a sense, there.

I enjoy your personification of autumn as a kind of stern woman at her work. It’s an inventive treatment of the changing seasons. I guess at some point I’ll have to try and spend some time in that part of the world so I can understand the sense of dread at the coming of autumn.

Great poem, Gee.

It usually heralds 8 months of cold and wet, this off the back of 4 months of warm and wet.

Got wet this morning. Dry now:)
damn good poem, Gee...
the imagery in this, the chill....it is like Frost meets Poe...
there is darkness, there is cold, and yet there is beauty and remembrance.

This is why I so love Autumn. Always, absolutely always, it births some quite lovely poems; and this is one of them; and for me, the title itself is a poem.

Really enjoyed this.

Simple in its splendid depiction of autumn as it sneaks up on us like a thief, depriving us of all the comforts that spring and summer bring!
