Before all is painted white (Autumn)

Break out the winter woolies folks, she's a comin'

The fading light from wearied sun
silhouettes the gathered throng,
upon their terracotta perch
in silence, without song.

For they can feel the seasons change
the chill of autumns breath,
see flowers wilt, trees ablaze
such magnificence in death.

Then before all colour painted white,
before winters bell it chimes,
as one on wing they'll take their leave
and head to warmer climes.

And very good rhyming it is, too, especially in verse 2. The inner knowledge of animals, such as the birds in the poem, never ceases to amaze me. It's as though they're all psychic. I know my cats are. They know when it's feeding time long before I do. Then again, maybe the little buggers are running a scam on me.

If only red bull really gave us wings, I'd join 'em.
It is a thought how quickly that cooling breeze becomes a nip in the air, which becomes a slap in the face so soon. I think after the year we've all had, Ma Nature should give us a reprieve and restart summer, then move to autumn then spring.
We can dream.
A beautiful piece Gee, with the alarming line of all being painted white. Let's hope covid doesn't like winter and flies off too 😀
