Popping corks and laughter

Popping corks and laughter

A Poem by Gee
"

Attended the opening of a garden room that is dedicated to the memory of Deb Daly who passed away last August.

"
Sometimes we forget the sadness
notice not your empty chair
as popping corks and laughter
fill the celebratory air,
but when your name is mentioned
and tales of you relayed,
the light dims briefly in our eyes
and on lips sad smiles are played,
because popping corks and laughter
with you walked hand in hand,
into our hearts where love you left
like footprints in the sand.

A lovely write, celebrating one who had a special place in your life and now in your memories. Beautifully expressed sentiments and a lovely tribute.

Wow. This is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. It's the sort of thing that just touches our humanity and doesn't just brush against it but consoles it with a firm and reassuring hand. This is really a gem of a write and a worthy eulogy to a life well lived. I enjoyed the read. F.

Thanks John. Deb is sorely missed every day
Your poem is a beautiful and heartfelt tribute to the way that we remember those who have passed on, and the way that their absence can be felt even in the midst of celebration and joy. I love the way you describe the way that we sometimes forget the sadness, and fail to notice the empty chair, as popping corks and laughter fill the air. The way you describe the light dimming in our eyes, and the sad smiles that play on our lips when your name is mentioned, is particularly poignant, as it captures the way that memories of loved ones can bring both joy and sorrow. I also love the way you describe the way that popping corks and laughter walked hand in hand with you, into our hearts, where love was left like footprints in the sand. Overall, I think your poem is a beautiful and moving tribute to the power of memory, and the way that those we love can continue to live on in our hearts, even after they are gone. It made me feel both sad and comforted, and I really enjoyed reading it.

A belated thank you
It is how we keep people alive Gee, through remembering the good times we sheared and still do, every time we think of them.
Beatifully stated.
Hope you and yours are well, or as well as can be.

Those we love have a tendency to stick with us, even after they're gone from our lives. This is a beautifully written tribute, and has the gentle touch that seems to carry throughout all of your work. Thanks for sharing.

This brought memories of my grandparents now long gone. A slight sadness but out weighed by the past laughter and happiness. Nicely written
