To The Edge

To The Edge

A Poem by SPINNING ON that dizzy edge

Previous Version
This is a previous version of To The Edge.

I wanted to know happiness

outside this darkened day

The sting of love unrealized

won't quickly fade away.

We came on strong

we burned out fast

Somehow I knew

it wouldn't last

This dance of time

that fades away

the lover's song

to shades of grey

But still there was

a red hot blaze

on stolen nights

of certain days

A promise filled

a whispered pledge

But now I'm standing

on the edge...

The lover's song

I loved this stanza! I really liked how you reflected on how sometimes the boisterous love that seems to be our only focus at a young age tends to shift and turn to this gray as time drags along. A well written thoughtful piece. I also like your style, well done.

Sometimes we just have to have it, even knowing that it won't last. Is that taking happiness where you find it or is that being blind? I'm not sure. Your sad poem has left me wondering...

Well worded.

My favorite is the closure -

for now I'm standing on the edge.

Love can bring us to a sudden halt and the only thing left is memories and sometimes pain.

I feel like this poem could have a sequel to it. Hmmmm, just an idea.

Oh I love this. The lines:

"But still there glows
a red hot blaze
of stolen nights
on certain days."

jumped off the page at me. How wonderfully you have woven these words together to impart so much.

I was blown away by this poem, absolutely floored. I see tweaks that I would make (but don't I always?)
I'll shoot you a PM with my niggles but know that they in NO way diminish the chill that this poem sent through my being.

I absolutely love this piece! It flows well and I agree it reads like a song. You have captured this all too familiar feeling flawlessly. Excellent!!!

The thoughts of love unrealized
don't quickly fade away. --- So very, very true.

This is really very beautiful and I am definitely glad that I stopped in to read it.
Great write, Kath.
Ironic, isn't it, that sometimes the saddest times produce the most beautiful poems of all.
