A Chapter by Mike Cole

His college decision was child’s play

Ivy League School in New England

His father’s Alma mater

Had obtained every scholarship to a Pre-Med program that had thrived for years

He met a girl

The most beautiful girl on campus

“You are wonderful” She would say

Yet he would feel empty

“You bring me happiness” She would say

Yet he would feel empty

He would tell his shrink that he feels sick

Because this beautiful girl tells him he is amazing

And he feels nothing

Feels as if all of this world is pouring into his life

And he remains empty

A life hollow

Only to be nourished by preoccupations that make him feel more unfiled

His smile fake like wax apple decorations

Attempting to find more women that will make him feel special

His colleagues told him that was the key to escape the emptiness

Yet it is like he is trapped in the void of space

Turning to promiscuous tendencies

Hoping that they might be a signal

Targeting and eventually pinpointing

Something that will make him feel whole

Wondering why fulfillment never opened its doors
