Toolbox

I live in my toolbox

Surrounded by food wrappers and garbage

Rusted nails and screws

I live like a man

I rarely cook

I don't clean

Cobwebs above my head

Crusted earth below on the carpet

On the tile

A mixture of gasoline and mildrew

Fills my nostrils

Organization is nonexistent

I put every piece of the jigsaw

Where I can find space

The puzzle doesn't look

Anything like the box it came in

I find the solutions to problems

In the most makeshift ways

Lifting sliding doors off the tracks

So I take machinery

Back and forth to my van

I'm surprised I don't see

Yellowed newspaper everywhere

Though I don't read much

News

That always seems to be

in hoarder's houses

At night when I sleep I listen to rodents

Creaking their way

Through gaps

In scraps of metal framings

My van only plays cassettes

As I rock the best of the Eagles

A decade after the millenium

The language in this poem is really effective at conveying your environment and how it reflects the different parts of who you are. It's always good to be connected with our surroundings, can't really think of anything to change. Keep it up!

I lived in a plywood hooch not much bigger than a van with 3 other marines for 9 months in Afghanistan. It's a miracle we didn't kill each other. I really liked this descriptive piece. Particularly the ending. Good poem
