Guilt

Guilt

A Poem by Rose
"

It is something we all feel. It is natural.

"
Sometimes an anchor forms

and I watch as my room transforms

and down I
go

go

go

Deep into the ocean of guilt.

and sometimes I find it's hard to breathe

as I sink lower and farther from light

and I feel that cold ocean bite.

I don't know if I'll ever escape from this large, vast ocean

but I have a notion

that this is not real.

It is just how I feel.

About your poem . . . this could apply to so much more than just guilt. It could be about anxiety, dread, loneliness, whatever! I love your last 2 lines . . . this is how I've managed all my neuroses for years . . . telling myself it's just a passing jolt of insanity, but it's not my identity. Now about guilt . . . I grew up back in an era when women were just starting to have jobs en masse, but they were also expected to handle everything on the home front, etc. Women were a bundle of guilt becuz they couldn't do justice to all the crap they were expected to handle. If they screamed at their kid, they were consumed with guilt & overcompensated by spoiling the kid. If they had to leave work to deal with a kid problem, they worked overtime for free for weeks out of guilt. Watching all this, I decided not to get married & have kids, which was a great decision for my life. But I see a ton of guilt among the women, even in today's world, trying to be everything to everyone (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you so, so much! It means the world! ❤️
right away .. i love the form! i agree ..we all feel it .. that and self loathing .. its a human trait taught to us i think ... i have read over and over in the Bible that God does not condemn us .. is not the author of guilt but rather immense forgiveness and acceptance and love .. so much reassurance there. ;) i think your closing is full of wisdom that coms from the struggle ... well won says i! peace and joy :)

Very relatable to many, Rose. We all have our days of emotional drowning but it is always important to keep treading the water in that ocean of guilt. If we have courage and keep treading we will eventually be saved by a wave of positivity. You captured the feeling very well here. I hope all is well. Wonderful work. 💛

Well said! And thank you so, so much! ❤️
What you say in your title and description is true enough, yet your amazing poem amazed me even more. I like the line "I feel that cold ocean bite". And the ending was perfect. tyfs

Thank you so very much! I worked on that line for quite some time! ❤️
Guilt can weight heavy on your mind and in your heart. I liked how you used the metaphor of an anchor to describe it. We all suffer from it, but some far worse than others. Thank you Rose.

Woah. The imagery you pulled together here, how much people can relate to this is amazing! That guilt is such an awful feeling especially when you shouldn’t be feeling it at all! One of my favorites from you because you describe everything here so great!!
