Somewhere Behind These Eyes

Somewhere Behind These Eyes

A Poem by Neville

Somewhere Behind These Eyes

You can not punish me

With silence

My ears crave the hush

Neither can you hurt me

Now with poetry

For I am since blinded

And no longer crave or care

For words

So pray be still and quiet

Your moment is no more

But gone and truly lost

Such moments are but sins tho

At least they are in my book

And still in draft form

Somewhere behind these eyes

there are different kinds of darkness

This one is mysterious. I’m probably trying too hard. I can think of a few kinds of darkness, but that darkness that involves others in our minds can be the deepest. Because there are certain things that can never be resolved. When it is our own darkness we have ways and means, but darkness imposed by someone else is unpredictable.

Now I’ve talked a lot about your author’s note. But I haven’t really said anything meaningful, have I. Just taking another look. I’m grasping...but, I’m thinking of the peace one can find when there is peace with the self. The ability to become non-reactive and cease craving stimulation or interaction with the past is a moment of triumph.

I feel the poem is addressing the past which seeks to be part of the present but is not welcome. Something powerful in that rebuke. Keeping the upper hand.

I’ll stop trying to solve it and just appreciate what you’ve done with the words. Excellent bit of contemplation.

I’ll leave it to itself now.

When I thought of darkness here I reflected on your unfinished book,, and imagined you plotting it in your head. Now that story that you want to tell is a dark one indeed. There are many other forms of darkness, but on this bright morning it is the unfinished book with its dark plot that springs to mind. Good morning Neville.

Yes darkness can take many forms and this verse outlines the ebony-black of a time when the victim gives voice to resistance - - - on my third reading I thought this may point to relationships devoid of once felt togetherness. A light in the the last stanza shows a way to spill out in words all the build-up of dark.....fantastic write again Nev.
