Love Smoke

Love Smoke

A Poem by Paul Bell

I draw you in
Five rings of smoke appear like magic
Your face on every one
Christ how romantic am I
Maybe drink a JD  in your honour
It's amazing how little things bring you to me
The phone comes alive halfway through your honour
Your soft sexy voice sends a tingle down my spine
You say it's over
Well, that was out of the blue
I draw you in
The sign on the packet
Smoking can damage your health and eventually kill you
So profound
I check the bottle of JD
No warning on that
You disappear into the clouds
Every one a silver lining.

The love smoke that can kill... How is it loving? I wonder. The ironic title suits the poem.

"It's amazing how little things bring you to me
The phone comes alive halfway through your honour
Your soft sexy voice sends a tingle down my spine
You say it's over "

At this point i wonder if you were actually referring to a relationship - other than a cigar.

Would he be as shallow as that. Who knows.
This poet from the smoke filled dens of deeds,
throws caution to the wind and on the ground.
Meanful notions cast in rhymless weed,
without iambic meter to be found.

The battle though, is hardly in the bag,
as artists of great skill are wont to rhyme.
We even see a phone call that’s a drag,
but not enough to dull this happy time.

The joy of smoke may send one to the grave,
more quickly than a verse with naught but word.
Gad Zooks, my friends, there must be more to crave,
yet free-verse pleases some, or so I've heard.

This poem does its job (and does it well)
my prejudicial view won’t let me tell.

Your review would merit being a poem in its own right. Smoking and JD. It is a marriage of sorts.
brilliantly penned, painting a portrait of both the light and darkness we all have no choice but to deal with.
it’s inspiring to read a write that ends with a feeling of hope, optimism, than to just have a piece end that is full of bitterness when dealing with reality’s harsh circumstances. thank you for sharing :)

Thanks, one of my favourites.
love your emotion and writing and matter of factness that in reality expresses much more feeling such as '' you say it's over
Well, that was out of the blue""
great poem!

lol well ok
Sometimes we need a little help from our friends...
My back-burners are full up
with things I wish to kinda forget
but actually, there is no relief
from a broken heart..

Well Done...... understood
