Love is...

Love is...

A Story by StayAnchored

I had a writing prompt in my devo that prompted this article. :)

"

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

-1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is…

Love has been described as so many things throughout the existence of man: a feeling, an emotion, an attraction. But the scripture above would go against those things, even though they can go hand-in-hand; love is limitless. Kindness, security, trust, hope, and perseverance are not feelings or emotions as much as they are actions.

John 15:13 says, “There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends”, which places emphasis on love’s selfless nature and activeness. Love is sacrifice. Not only did Jesus sacrifice his time, image, and comfort, He even sacrificed Himself-for us, a wretched people.

We do not deserve love, but does anyone really? If love were not selfless, we would all be alone because, as much as we hate to admit it, we are all imperfect, flaw-filled, sinners. Love, despite being hurt, forgives. Love, despite being shattered, rebuilds. Love, despite being ignored, persists. Love, despite being denied, continues to call out “you are mine!” Jesus claims us as His own, no matter how much grief we bring or baggage we carry.

So, the only logical way to return the love and affection our Creator has for us, is to demonstrate our love. We should be living out our faith as an act of worship and adoration for our Father. He continually forgives us, so we should forgive others. He continually provides for us, so we should provide for others. He continually comforts us, so we should comfort others. No matter how many times we mess up, His love remains and so should our love for Him.

^^ This is very well written, I love the message! In this world we our taught that love is selfish whether we like to admit it or not so it is easy for any human to get lost in this idea, we forget what love truly is. Thankfully God has shown His ultimate love and gave us an example so we can follow. It may not be easy for us but God gives us strength and help along the way.

Great Job

I love it! Well thought out and expressed! It is poetic... Love is probably mostly confused with lust nowadays. It is something of a sermon. Paragraph one lays out the problem. Two sort of gives the nature of love and three gives the action and reaction of true love. Finally, you conclude the 'sermon' with an application which sort of pulls in the other three paragraphs.

I believe if you were outlining your essay you could make it a lot tighter with a good deal more punch. I like it.
