Certainly Strange Sally

Certainly Strange Sally

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

An odd duck, for sure.

"
Certainly Strange Sally

Sally is certainly strange,
and not especially bright
She insists she only daydreams
in the middle of the night

She wears her wristwatch backwards
so she can look back in time
She submits blank papers in writing class
titled "Dialogue of a Mime"

She named her goldfish Fluffy
She sings to her spare change
She eats spearmint gum on crackers
Yes, Sally is certainly strange.

This is so funny. I agree with Pryde, this could make a great children's book if you extended it.

Thanks, Eddie - I'll have to come up with more quirks for Sally!
An extended version of this would make a great children's book. Very witty.

Lol! Yes, weird but lovable!
I am absolutely crazy about Sally! And I'll bet she's probably a lot brighter than you give her credit for...nonconformists usually are. My favorite bit is the "Dialogue of a Mime"...sounds like something one of my precious progeny might have concocted.
Fabulously funny farce, my friend!

All the best people are, my pleasure! :-)
I think Sally sounds quite nifty*)
I love her "Dialog of a mime" takes witty thought to come up with that one
so quick I fell for this character...and ya did it in so few lines...
please don"t fail Sally...she will end up a cutter for not fitting into society's normalcy requirements...
she doesn't fit in with those that do not bend ....she is busy doing back bends to see if she could switch night with day*)*)*)
I really really enjoyed this write- I am not a Sally but they are amazingly unique to watch
thank you teach this is great

First poem on WC that made me laugh out loud. But it wasn't a funny laugh it was a satisfied, brought back memories laugh. I absolutely loved this poem, the last stanza especially. Well constructed and well written. It has a childlike quality yet is certainly an adult poem. We need more happy and quietly profound poems like this on WC. LOVED IT.

Yes, she's certainly strange, but I think that's better than losing your identity trying to conform.

Exactly - Sally will always be Sally! :)
Hi Rita. A delightful poem and a fun read. Wonderful humor. Vivid imagery that any reader can appreciate. Flow is good; line to line transition and breaks are well done. Very nice rhythm and use of enjambment. Rhyme is good as is the rhyme scheme. Every second/fourth line is perfect masculine end line rhyme which is executed with precision. Good word choice as is the alliteration. Nice use of repetition for emphasis. An entertaining piece. Well penned. Write on!
