Morning News

Morning News

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Too much saccharine with my morning java...

"

Good morning, Brittany!

Good morning, Ted!

In the news today,

Eighty-seven are dead!

An inferno, an accident,

An attack unsurpassed…

Now here’s Joe

With the weather forecast!

Thanks, Brittany!  Today,

There’ll be clouds with some sun,

Now here’s Beth with the traffic,

Won’t that be fun!

Good morning at home,

And thank you, Joe!

There’s an eight-car pileup,

And the going is slow!

Here’s our high-tech chopper

For a view that’s live ~

Look at that mess

On I-95!

Now back to the news desk ~

Brittany and Ted?

Wait’ll you hear

Which celebrities wed!

That’s all the news is,

A candied word-fest

Giving no time

For our minds to digest

Afraid that emotion

Would make it too real ~

God forbid, we allow

For the masses to feel

Great satire on superficiality, Rita....but I think we have to accept that, for most of the time people can`t cope with the raw truth - it gets in the way of equilibrium. In UK we have a BBC radio station called Radio 4 which gives continuous in-depth coverage. It should be the most popular station, but it ain`t! A superb poem, love. P.

Thank you, Pete. You are right, people are not equipped to handle reality.

So true - a constant stream of information, but none of it means a thing in the din. Thanks, Mark.

Thanks, Don!
I read this earlier today and was called away before I could review it.
This made me laugh at the absurd truth of it. The wording here is so clever and the structure extremely well done.
I'll never look at newscasters the same way again. :)

Ha! Thank you, Rogue! Yes, absurd is the word... Glad this gave a smile. :)
I don't mind a little light hearted news but makes sure the important stories are covered first and in detail.
I only watch one news program myself cause it is the only one I can stand.

I must be a glutton for punishment; I watch the news each morning. Thanks for reading, Dale!

Me too.... while I get ready for work I watch "Morning Express" on CNN Headline news
Every single time I turn on the news. Don Henley's, 'Dirty Laundry' is playing in the background. Nicely done, Rita. Angi~

Yep - that's the soundtrack, all right. Thanks, Angi!
it is so true....News HAS to be dramatic.....Oh and all the better for a celeb or two to be involved...And WHY are there so many news channels...and HOW can they compete.....NEWS is news.....I use teletext to get mine....a few buttons pressed and there it is...No anchor men....no dizzy weather girls....no CELEBRITIES....Good poem...Got ME riled anyway

And sometimes, to read it poorly - drives me crazy when they mispronounce words...
That's what they're paid )very well) to do.
In my area they gon on and on and on about the ame thing. I don't need to hear any more about the storm. I know what it did.

Thanks, Debbie! It is a running complaint in our house, too. :)
We live in different cities but it seems we have the same anchors. Funny and true Rita.
