Not Meant for Me

Not Meant for Me

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

A thought that came, to my surprise...

"

A thought that came to my surprise

Soon disappeared behind my eyes

It ran around inside my brain

I tried to catch it, but in vain

I think the thought was quite profound

Amazing brilliance to astound

Those ancient secrets of existence

Took the path of most resistance

The thought that came, then went away

Would deem all other thoughts passé

But because it disappeared,

I will not be so revered

I think that thought just wandered in,

Not meant for me, to my chagrin

That thought that came, to my surprise

Was meant for someone far more wise

Your poem expresses your theme with a beautiful rhyming cadence. I'm not sure if I'll enter this contest, but I'll think about it. My magnificent raven is already competing with a turkey and a duck in the Raven Contest. May the best bird win! My subconscious mind is now working on an "I had a thought" poem without my permission now that it was brought up.

wasn't meant for me.

Thank you so much, Ghalia! I'm glad you liked it.
Very enjoyable. In terms of frustration, I can think of two other things that somewhat compare. One is, after an argument, thinking of a witty or killing retort that you wish you had thought of at the time. The other is waking from a pleasant dream and wishing you could go back to sleep to have it continue.
Writing our poems is perhaps one way of preserving our thoughts before we forget them. Splendid rhyme and cadence, as usual.

So frustrating when we think of the perfect retort after the argument is over! Thank you, Rich!
The mind is a wonderfully mysterious thing... how we can have a great thought or idea that all the suddenly disappears... this was a witty and fun read.

Yes it does, you are welcome.
I loved the rhyming in this....it was absolutely flawless. So often thoughts rush past on the screen of our mind's eye and just as we decide they are attractive, they vanish....never to be seen again. Written with a bit of tongue in cheek humor. Very enjoyable write, Rita. Lydi**
