DON'T LEAVE ME MOM

DON'T LEAVE ME MOM

A Poem by Shabeeh Haider
"

Written a few months before my mother's death. It was all so sudden

"

I held your hand and said goodbye,
Don’t leave me mom, please do not die.
This heart will burst, these eyes will cry,
You won’t be there to wipe them dry.
Don’t leave me mom, please do not die.

.

Your eyes have lost their sparkling light,
Your skin is turning pale and white.
I see each day this painful sight.
Hold on to life, give it a try,
Don’t leave me mom, please do not die.

,

I turn away, I have to leave,
It’s still not time, but yet I grieve.
So many memories to retrieve,
Before my eyes past moments fly,
Don’t leave me mom, please do not die.

.

Today will turn to yesterday,
I watch each moment slip away.
We all will go, no one will stay.
But still this heart lets out a cry,
Don’t leave me mom, please do not die.

I say this honestly and without exaggeration - this poem nearly made me cry. It is so beautifully written, but about such a terrible and painful topic. That combination gives it a vividness that breaks my heart. The rhythm is maintained perfectly throughout literally every single line. The rhyme scheme is also flawlessly executed. I love every line of this poem for its sincerity of emotion - well, love and also hate it, because it expresses so much pain and I know that this happened to a REAL PERSON, to you. However, if I have to pick out the lines that touched me the most, they would be "This heart will burst, these eyes will cry, / You won't be there to wipe them dry"... "I turn away, I have to leave, / It's still not time, but yet I grieve. / So many memories to retrieve, / Before my eyes past moments fly, / Don't leave me mom, please do not die"... and "Today will turn to yesterday, / I watch each moment slip away. / We all will go, no one will stay / But still my heart lets out a cry." I am blown away by your skill in expressing the depth of emotion behind this piece. I offer you whatever condolences I can, and know that, even though we've never actually met, my heart truly hurts for you. This poem is an excellent and beautiful tribute to your mother. Thank you for sharing this.

This is beautiful...that sounds so "not enough" for a review as it is used so often, but it comes from deep within me and I understand. I too, lost my mother and it is just as you say. I can feel your grief and empathy floods me. My sympathies and accolades on this sad, painful, and heartfelt goodbye.

It does, my pleasure Shabeeh :)
I think this is a wonderful way to grieve, begging for it not to happen, but knowing we can't stop it. Anyone who has lost a parent will appreciate this. I liked it. It's easy to read, slow and sad.

James, we are so helpless before death. Thank you for your very kind words.
First let me say I am sorry for your loss and I hope her memory is a blessing to you. The deep emotions in this write hit me hard. I remember what it was like watching my mom slip away from me and how much it hurt to see her close her eyes for the last time. Our mothers are watching us and want us to move forward...to be happy. Your poem is very special. Lydi**

You had my heart invaded with this masterpiece. Mother, every person on this earth has a mother- who gives us birth and forgoes many things to give us a good life. It is bitter veracity that one who comes has to depart. You have expressed your affection towards your mother beautifully. Excellent piece there. Hats off! Keep writing.

Thank you, Happy hours
very sad hours...lost my mom a couple years back...we somehow think they will always be with us, but life is so ephemeral and we, so mortal...and we lose the ones we love as we grow older, and it really hurts.
