Chapter Five

Chapter Five

A Chapter by Tripp

The next morning at around three, Nikki awoke and crawled off the bed in pain and pulled herself to Ryou who wasn’t breathing. She panicked and checked his pulse which was barely anything at all. She laid her head on his chest.

“Please don’t die, Ryou… Please don’t.” she said, Trying to deny the truth. “Please… I need you here.” She laid her hand on his forehead and checked his pulse again. It was slowing at a drastic pace. She sat against the wall, Tears falling down her face. She sat there thinking and then crawled back over, Shaking him. “Ryou… It’s time to wake up… You’ve gotta wake up, Come on.” She said, Shaking him over and over, Trying to wake him up. There was no reaction but her own tears. “Please, Ryou… Wake up, Please… Please…” she tried at the non reaction. “No… No… It can’t be.” She bawled, Not believing the truth. She laid his head on his chest and wept uncontrollably.

“You’re awake.” Bakura said, Walking in and leaning on the door frame.

“You…” she growled under her breath. “I HATE YOU!”

“Yeah. I know. Get over it.”

“NO! You… YOU KILLED RYOU! MY BROTHER! MY ONLY SIBLING AND THE ONLY GOOD THING I HAD IN THIS WORLD! AND YOU TOOK HIM AWAY FROM ME! I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU!” she screamed, Tearing at her vocal cords.

                “Ah well.” He shrugged.

“Ah well? AH WELL?! THAT’S ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY IS ‘AH WELL’?!” she tried to stand up to face him but fell to her knees in pain.

“Ummm… Yeah. It is.” He said, Walking out and closing the door. Nikki screamed and cried into her brothers chest until she got a hold of herself a little. She went into her dresser and got all of her and Ryous money and counted a total of two thousand five hundred and sixty four dollars and twenty eight cents. She searched her room for a bag and put all of the money in it and slid it under her bed. She ran and took a shower, Put on Ryous favourite outfit of hers and called Joey.

                “Hello?” Joey answered.

“Hey.”
“Hey Nikki.”

“Can you please come over, NOW?”
“Yeah. What’s wrong?”
“I’ll tell you when you get here.” He voice quivered.

“Okay. On my way.” He said determined.

“Thanks.” She hung up and started cleaning the room as best as she could until she heard the bell ring.

“Nikki, Door!” he said. Nothing. “NIKKI! GET THE DOOR!” Nothing. He stood and growled, Walking to the door and opening it. “What do you want?”
“I-I’m here to see Nikki.” Joey gulped.

“Hold on.” Bakura growled in return.

“Okay.” He nodded.

“Nikki! Your stupid friend’s here, So get your a*s in here!” Bakura shouted, Sitting on the couch.

“Okay! Just a second!”
“NO! NOW!” she screamed, turning the tv up a bit.

“Fine…” she said, Limping through the living room and to the door.

“Don’t you give me that attitude!”
“All I did-“
“STOP!” he threatened. She opened the door and let Joey in.

“Come on.” She said, Walking back to their room.

“What’s wrong?” he asked as he walked into their room and she shut the door. “Woah! This place is a mess!”
“Yeah. I haven’t cleaned much of it up yet. I was trying to before you got here.”

“Ewww… What happened to Ryou?!”

“He… He…” she looked down. Joey turned and saw her sad face.

“Oh my God…” he covered his mouth.

“He died… Killed… By Bakura. The one that answered the door!”

“That b*****d!” he growled.

“I can’t believe he did that! I’m so sick of him!” she sobbed.

“Is that why you called me over here?”
“Yeah. I need to give him a funeral. I have all of Ryous and my money. All together we have two thousand five hundred and sixty four dollars and twenty eight cents and I have no idea how much a funeral is…” she said.

“It depends on how big it is and what not.”
“Oh no.” she sat on the edge of the bed and put her head in her hands, Trying to hold back her emotions. “I… I can’t believe he’s dead! I-I WON’T believe it! I can’t!”

“Shhh…” Joey pulled her into him and held her and put her head on his chest as she sobbed. “Do you want to plan it now?”
“Y-Yeah…” she pushed away from him, Wiping her eyes. “Let me clean a bit first.” She turned and vacuumed the room and washed the rugs and made it look like Ryou committed suicide.

“Why’d you do that?”

“Because if anyone finds out Bakura did it, Then I’LL be in huge trouble and I might die as well… Although I don’t see a point anymore.

“Okay. Let’s go.”
“Okay.” She replied, grabbing all of the money, Slid it into her book bag along with her binder and walked into the living room.

“Where are you going?” Bakura asked.

“What? Why did he stop us?” Nikki stopped, Looking up Joey.

“I asked you a question! I EXPECT an answer!”

“We’re going for a walk and then to his house.” She replied frankly.

“No you’re not.” He said, Looking Joey up and down.

“Yes… We are.” She said, Taking Ryous spirit with her.

“No you’re not!” he stood up.

“You can’t keep her locked up here! She’s not a doll! She’s going!” Joey said, Stepping towards her. Bakura growled and threw his paper down.

“I can do what I want with her! I OWN her!” he said looking at them. They started walking out of the house before Bakura grabbed Nikkis wrist.

“I said no…” he said. She turned to him with a scowl on her face and tore her wrist from him and walked out and down to the funeral place. They talked to the guy for what seemed like hours and gave them all of the money she had. The next day they picked Ryou up and headed to the funeral. It was a sad day to all who was there. Nikki looked at his tomb and fell to her knees in tears.

She smiled faintly and set his favourite flowers on his tombstone and said a prayer. She then stood and looked up at the sky. The wind whispered through her hair and to her it seemed like Ryous gentle voice. It was a beautiful sunny day and the warm breeze continued to flow. And she kept thinking she could hear him. Finally an apparition appeared in front of her whispering, “Nikki… I’m okay now. I don’t hurt anymore. I’m in a better place now. I love you and I’ll wait for you. I promise. Come and kiss the stars with me. When you get home, You’ll have a surprise under box. I love you. Goodbye.” He smiled, Kissing her cheek and hugging her before vanishing.

“I love you, Too.” She whispered, Tears rolling down her cheeks as the warm breeze flew through her, Ryous sweet scent lingering in it as Joey looked over.

“You okay?” he walked over.

“Yeah. I’m fine… He’s in a better place now…” she sighed to herself. Joey nodded and walked away as he appeared in front of Joey as well.

“Joey, Don’t worry. I’m in a better place now. I don’t hurt anymore. Thank you for being a good friend. Take care of Nikki for me, Please. She needs your help now, More than ever. You have a surprise box under your bed when you get home. Good bye, Dear friend.” He said, Hugging him and vanishing.

“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of her. Bye, Bud.” He said and then turned back to Nikki as Ryou faded away.
