2. Eric

Chapter 2 part 1

"A werewolf?" My voice sounded breathless and wheezy.
Eric smirked. "What, there can't be werewolves even though there's vamps?"
My eyes slid shut. A werewolf. Of all the mythical beasts that had to be real, werewolves got thrown in too? I'd never met one before, and Saden hadn't spoken of them, so I had assumed they weren't real. I guess that was unfair seeing how vampires are real. "I-I just wasn't expecting you," I stammered. I scowled at him again. "So, why were you 'passing through'?"
"Hey, now, Kitty, don't get your tail twisted in a knot. I'm on my way to the were-convention in Illinois. I'm meeting up with some friends."
"Weres have...conventions?"
"Sure, why not? Don't vamps get together every now and then?"
"No," I responded sharply, "Covens stay among themselves. You'd better be leaving then, Eric." I tried his name in my mouth. It tasted like dog. Go figure.
"Actually, I was wondering if I could stay here for the night. I've been going all week, so..." He gave a face I'm sure anyone else might've fallen for, a look that suggested puppy eyes and bad boy at the same time.
"Watch yourself, pup," I warned, "I haven't fed in weeks, and even though you smell like a dumpster, I might take a bite oughta you."
He chuckled. "Okay then, Kitty, I'll be on my way. Ciao." He gave me a two-finger salute and slinked off into the woods.
"Why that little..." I fumed. Soon, though, I remembered reality, and the coven. I wasn't sure if they'd be back, and I was not certain about anything Eric said. For all I knew, he had a whole pack with him, and they might raid us. My coven's name was the Night's Whisper. Every coven has a name, usually. Our family was well-known for being peaceful drifters, never staying long in one place. We didn't keep hoards or collect anything like other vamps; we lived very simply.
I raced back to the house by the highway we had rented for the week. The lights were on. Yes! I charged through the door and fell breathlessly at Saden's feet.
