And So It Is

And So It Is

A Poem by Chris Shaw

sun shines
regardless of
grief

each one of us
a leaf waving
on a deciduous tree

not quite
knowing when our
goodbye will arrive

fleeting
like a rain cloud
passing through

fragile
as a white winged
butterfly

though some
wield a sledge hammer
strike a mighty blow

can change
a river's flow
in waters of history

maybe it's just as well we don't know when that moment will arrive .. at least most of us don't .. here though, you have not only reminded us of our own mortality, indeed of all things both animate and inanimate, but you have most importantly captured the very essence of life's fragility .. the fleeting and transitory nature of it ............ having got that off my chest, I must also say it's an honour to be #75 on your impressive list of reviewers .. an amazing achievement and most worthy .. Neville

History most definitely has a real version and forged version. Enjoyed the nature's tinge across the writing. Beautifully done with brevity in lines.

Thank you Diamond, I appreciate your thoughts.

Against the backdrop of the eternal circle of life, the fragility of our own brief moment, (each of us no more immortal than the little leaf,) is so elegantly scripted here Chris.

As it always has done, and even should the course of history be forever changed, the sun will continue to shine.

Prayers for you and yours to stay safe and well.

Beccy.

We are all fragile creatures and I think that has been highlighted over the past week or so. No one knows what tomorrow brings....we are all people of "one day"....and we know not when that day will be. The imagery in this poem is stunning, Chris. Lydi**

You really know how to use words, Chris. Have read quite a few superbly laid posts on the present nightmare, but here, there's light focussed so gently 'pon the most vunerable of life, Mankind, It truly has hit home for me. The last leaf has always symbolised the end of.. Perhaps someone could now write of that first seed, the re-emergence of birdsong... similar. Wishing warmth and true safety for you all.

A piece that gathers the reader to it's bosom and tells the truth, we are lost until we decide not to be, well done, good read.

Apparently, trees haunt you.
Utterly lovely, Chris, and--as always--far more than meets the eye.
"...in waters of history": an apt, powerful closing.
