sometimes poetry just happens when we least expect it.

"I never understood wind.

You know, I know windmills

very much. I have

studied it better than

anyone else. It's very

expensive. They are

made in China

and Germany mostly. -Very

few made here, almost none.

-But they are manufactured tremendous

- if you are into this -Tremendous

fumes.  Gasses are

spewing into the atmosphere. You

know we have a world right?

So

the world is tiny compared

to the universe. So tremendous,

tremendous amount of fumes

and everything.

You talk about the carbon

footprint -

fumes are spewing into the air.

Spewing. Whether it's in China,

Germany it's going into the air.

It's our air. Their air

everything - right?

A windmill will kill

many bald eagles. After

a certain number they make you

turn the windmill off. 

That is true - by the way - they

make you turn it off. And

yet, if you killed one

they put you in jail.

That is OK. 

You want to see a bird graveyard?

You just go -

take a look. A bird graveyard.

Go under a windmill someday

you'll see more birds

than you've ever seen

in your life."

Maybe they will figure out a way to put a grill on them lol, like they do floor fans, poor birdies, or a way to keep them from freezing up in an ice storm to keep the unprepared south from sitting their firepits on the living room floor and burning down the building to stay alive next time global warming sends a freaking killer blizzard our way. The Almanac says be prepared for another freaky winter, how accurate is that Almanac anyway?

Hey , the're saying that to be prepared for a colder than normal winter with lots of snow and ice for Michigan and the mid west. The "Farmers Almanac" written by man, is still the psychoanal, superficial conscious part of the id, developed in response to the physical environment. It doesn't have to be true is people believe it. My mother plants her tomato seeds by it's instructions....but then again, she's 85 and/ loony on Zantac . We have to find truth even when the poets try to convince us otherwise. dana

I'm surprised your own words and style is gone missing h d! A quote from President Trump hanging on your title (which is most certainly yours) ;))))))))) It does make a strong social and political statement when put together ... funny tho ... my heart does kind of go out to the American Bald Eagle ... I have one tatted on me chest as a result of an up close encounter with one in the wild planes of SD. I think there is a balance to be struck ... oil and gas will never loose our need for them .. we have asphalt roads, oil and grease for turning gears ..plastics of all kinds ... hand creams .. body lotions and on and on ... the univeerse is a big place for sure ... bigger still for our smallness ;) Do you think DJ Trump will run in 2024? ... it this a preemptive strike? ;))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) luv your stuff dahlink .. as you know i do!! great title .. drew me in it did. I agree. Truth has no place in poetry / nor shall the tenants of such sanctimony be upheld. 78% of republicans believe that President Biden is not the "rightful" president while 46% believe that Trump will be reinstated.(WP-Sep. 15, 2021). Yet poetry is provident like that as it makes ready for future wants and emergencies. Sometimes poetry just happens, I guess. . There is a pair of nesting eagles (juveniles I believe) on Belle Isle. They are out of place, for sure, like a quote from the person who holds the highest office in the land. "Take me back to when we were all children given songs to sing" Tanaya Winder wrote/ which is ascribable to a less moral interposition. In other words, "make me forget what just happened."

Trump makes me sick. But him making me sick are not the victuals of poetic soundness unless it's ok to laugh when we should be crying.

"morning brother. I associate truth with "real events , verisimilitudes, we can agree, that poetry is just not dependent. But that's the trouble with 21st century poems . They must (MUST) tiptoe around the subjects of race, or abortion, or climate change, or unrest, or trump, or rape , or teenage incarceration. Virgil did it, as did Wordsworth, Crane, Plath, Frost, Dickinson and Stevens and when Pound did it he was relegated to the back story of poetic importance. OR when Baraka did it (talk about race or politics) he had to do it as a black nationalist not as a collage student married to a cute Jewish girl. That's why the saying "every poem is a love poem" means simply that every poem has that default built into it ;to steer the writer away from controversy for the sake of being readable. I love you and you know it. We can disagree without being at odds because (1) poets are civil and (2) poetry is result oriented not a manifesto. Dana

you'er what we called a "heavy head" in the 60s ... very intelligent, well read and socio-politically candid with a sharp edge .. your remarks have given me pause to be a bit intorspective as I don't think i tip toe around much at all any more .. my age gives me leave, says i ... we do agree tho ... poetry and creative writing in general allows us to be frank without being obvious ... "hitting our mark" on a transverse course so to speak ... what do you think of Lenny Bruce? ;) I don't think you are a tip toe kind of person, Dana ... its one thing that always draws me to read your "stuff" ... i was just surprised your poem is a quote .. in it's entirety with the exception of the title ... but I also recognize you are using it as a very unique form of art, I guess ... inspiring ridicule and anger ...which, as Shrek maintains .. "Better out than in"
