dark roast

dark roast

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

dark roast

i spilled coffee
all over my good jeans
blemished buckle
now dark gold
caffeine poems stained

i am writing now
in uncomfortable slacks
too many holes
in my older dungarees
they let in too much white space

less words
better fit?
maybe they just shrink
with more washings
or refined grounds.

Those old jeans sound like former selves and former experiences. More washings may make them fit better and also reduce the effects of the stains of the years.

Does the paper shrink too? To fit the words that is.

I am prone to the smooth Colombian myself. But I must confess to some coffee stained notebooks in my past. It doesn't bother me so much, the clothes, but trying to retrieve my thoughts from the stains left behind is never an easy chore. I enjoyed the read.
