whisper

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

whisper

give me as many today's

as tomorrow will allow

vast mileage

to learn

and then die

with the secret

as if I were the only one

who knew

and then selfishly kept it

from even, myself.

Nicely spoken as whispers hid within themselves to speak again ;-]

thank you, willow,

This is poetry Jacob. Me and you are older and we know. Love can be twisted. When love is near. We believe. Then we learn. Love is a dance of young hearts believing in forever. There wasn't no forever and thank you my friend for sharing the outstanding poetry.

You are welcome Jacob.
This is so deep and speaks many things to me...
The secret of learning and living life in the present.
Of filling it all in the present with no thought of tomorrow because tommorow doesn't exist.
The punch comes in the concluding line.
The poet doesn't want to share the joy even with himself.
Indeed, how often we spoil it for ourselves...

Brief and yet filled with so much! One of the biggest questions of life - one of the most sought after mysteries we wish to solve - one of the most universal wishes we all have tucked in our hearts. I appreciate how you write jacob and how your writing makes me feel. Thanks for sharing.

thank you for your very kind words, Elaine,

This seems to me to consider the question of whether we would want to know the date of our own demise. I think if you live it right, then knowing is unnecessary. As Joe E. Brown said, “You only go around once, but if you do it right once is enough.”

This is an adventurous read.
I read it twice as it deserved a second read.
Nicely done.

I venture to say that everyone reading this will stop and think. You have the blessing of being able to say so much in so few words. In this case, I think Buddha said it best: "If it comes, let it. If it goes, let it. Don't be attached, and you'll find peace."

Buddha knew.

You are losing a battle with life; called aging... and must squeeze everything, including learning as much as you can quickly before you go...there must be a special secret, but you can't even remember it, because perhaps your memory is gone....we never know what tomorrow will bring....so hurry and express and learn today....well done J.
