A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto
"

for Andrew J.

"

a reading

Richard Burton voices a poem

in the dead light of a foggy evening

a sound emerges

syllable by syllable

the accent is emphasized

the stress is like an argument

positioned in sunset rhyme

a Liz Taylor's dazzling eyes

quipping onomatopoeia

snap, snap, snap

the buzz is out

they are fighting again

he reading

she wants his attention

the poem sounds so good

even with the friction

of lines that keep trying to fit together

but don't.

O' boy, if only I had the voice of Burton and the equivilent male good looks of Taylor, then I could stand before the King's own court and read aloud my poetry to the world? Alas tho ' but don't '

Another stellar, ruminative poem Jacob!!

Liz and Dick....what a couple they were. I could almost hear his deep voice as I read this. Her violet eyes could have spoken....i am sure of that. They just could not make a marriage work though. Such is life. Good write. I wonder who Andrew J. is. Lydi**

Sometime love is not enough particularly in an alcohol fuelled atmosphere where performances are everything and low self esteem is not. He was great narrator in War of the Worlds, a great voice.

Yes, he was a great narrator in that.
Now I'm curious about the sound of Richard Burton's voice. 🙂
This is a lovely nod to a fellow poet.

Oh my...great voice...both of them. Richard and Andrew.

I can't recall what number Burton was in Liz's stable of husbands. He may have been represented twice. Artists aren't always the stuff of which enduring relationships are made of.

Ah, Liz and Richard, the not so good ole days. Vodka and Scotch and a relationship, all on the rocks. Although I heard they both drank cognac too. A good read, Jacob.

Have you heard Andrew read? Magic.
thanks for your words,
j.
I have some spoken word cds and Richard Burton's voice is amazing when he reads.
Those two were made for each other, but both too creative to ever be bound to one thing or person..

We can have a great idea for a poem, but the words might not read well. Not a successful outcome. Much like Richard Burton and Liz. On the surface, a great partnership. They adored each other, but could not live together. They were a beautiful couple but incompatible. Your poem reminds me that the ingredients need to be right for both marriage and for a poem to be totally successful. Wonderful poem j.

The voicing of a poem can add sparkle. Can turn it into a diamond. A Richard Burton voice can do that :)
