What is that fragrance?

Can we accept within our differences we are all really the same? What do we need? What defines us?

What is that fragrance?

 

I long to Linger in the Field fragrances of crimson clover and the thrum of humming birds.

Tucked in, hunkered down against the sometimes harshness of this life.

See the world run from tenderness? A smile is still the battle line.

Must anyone be set on edge by a caring face?  Do you hear the shouts of suspicion?

It seems they are fading. Hope calls. Not a no-man’s land. Go ahead cross on in.

Wear your robe of acceptance. Open arms, the norm.

Your difference is the commonality. Mine too for none of us are identical to another.

Loneliness is the brittle place. We will slowly die and only shoot word barbs at one another leading to 

our own self made prison.

The walls are critical judgment.  How about a cup of tea? Let’s laugh away our fears.

Surly we are familiar enough. For all our differences and disagreements there is also room for a new 

relationship.

We all possess a heart, a soul.  What else is needed? Choice is a decision and I choose you.

I may Sometimes be silly even foolish and Harder on myself than you are.

What seems big is really small. Let us work to create an open plain where we can openly meet with one 

another.

Open the door of Transparency.

Author's Note

How do we view others? Are we looking for a battle line? Is there a way to disagree, to protest where peace is the focus. We must not forget that this earth is shared. Blessings

🌈 Ahhh, that the world were, in your soul's bright vision, as you would have it be.

Well done, Kathy. It does seem that there is a decided lack of civility nowadays. We must all agree with every thought rather than be allowed to formulate our own opinions and live by them. Am I wrong because I don't agree with someone else's opinion ... is theirs right?
Puts me in mind of Orwell's thought police ... and the policies of Mao ... Stalin ... Hitler ... Kim Jung Un ... and any number of other dictators ... including the wannabe in charge of Canada.
We can choose hate or we can choose love.
I hope that love wins ... but I have my doubts.

We are all responsible for our own thoughts and begavior. None of us are perfect so to get to know others helps. Who knows why any person respons as they do at any given time. Things like fear or protecting one's agenda..etc, etc.So hope is the thing and patience is the thing. I appreciate your descriptions above and thoughts. We all have a lot to deal with now a days.

when i read the title i wondered if this would be about some cheating man who goes home wearing the fragrance of another ;) your theme of peace and mutual co-operation is eternal and universal ... we should have "gotten" it by now eh!? ... heavy sighs from Heaven i am sure :{ i think this line is brilliant! brilliant i say!! "Your difference is the commonality ..." now that is some acceptance ... that comes from a place of confidence ... without fear ... love it!! when entering the battle of ideas ... the most important thing to begin with is mutual respect ... then facts and logic .. and an acceptance that in the end .. neither party having swayed the other ... an agreement to disagree and retain the respect begun with ... i mostly relate this to our present Political climate in the USA ... :(( but there are plenty of "battle fields" of another nature in backyards all over the country :( i read a long time ago that fear is the first thing that those on the spiritual quest ... most overcome ... and we have plenty of them don't we .... not easy to stand with calm assurance in the face of monsters ..
wonderful concept, Kathy ... a fresh way to see an ancient need ... and in answer to "What is that fragrance?" ...why my dear friend ... it is patchouli of course! :)))) peace out sister!

I guess that hope goes a long way with me. What does it look like? We all are in a journey of time within our own process in inner change. So it is personal for each individual. I don't have any power to get in another's skin and effect much but understanding helps. We can all try. Your above paragraph is full of helpful and constructive ideas and gosh i't great..just sayin.

We need more poems like this one at this particular time. I really like the tone, the hopefulness that we might somehow lower our muskets and commune as simply friends with different viewpoints. But that it were so. Right now, though, the battle lines seem starkly drawn. But we can always hope.

I love how your thought flow feels a little random (realistic, conversational), yet everything supports your overall strong msg in favor of tolerance. You don't make the journey feel easy or hard, just a path needed, regardless of discomfort along the way. We don't have to embrace everyone's everything, but society in general needs to be more open-hearted, as your poem shows instead of preaching. I quit my satellite TV earlier this year & I have enjoyed not being exposed to so much fomenting & being served violence as entertainment! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

TV, the 'one eyed bandit' can be a great robber of our time and peace of mind. I really appreciate how you present the positive side of things. If we do not need something do we 'need it. So much of the state of the world comes across just in conversations and living in this world. Stuff just seems different. I do occasionally watch news but it is just so disorienting to me.
