She Falls

  Weigh her down with
  rocks, make people
  see the real her.

  Her husband calls out
  "she's innocent! She's
  innocent! Please don't
  hurt her!"

  But they don't listen.

  They don't believe
  the screaming man.

  In their eyes,
  she is a witch,
  a w***e,
  a person who is
  no where close
  to innocence.

  Her cheeks are tear
  stained and she looks
  at him one more time,
  before the rocks weigh
  her down.

  She falls down this rocky
  hole.

  She doesn't float.

  She is not a witch.

  But she is dead anyways,
  as her husband cries
  "she was innocent!
  She was innocent!
  You killed my love!"


 

Author's Note

In the 'good old days' people would hang women over wells and fill their pockets with rocks to see if they were witches or not. If they were witches, they would float. If they weren't witches they would fall down the well and die in a horrible tragic death.
Sooo I wrote a poem about it :D

I thought the Salem witch trials were so interesting when we learned about them in school. Back then, a lot of innocent people must've died due to these beliefs. Even today, the innocent are killed due to others framing them and having no evidence to save them.
