Riku watched as Link got ready for his wedding. It seemed appropriate as the path to the
Golden power was finally going to be revealed, Link was going to be married to
Malon. To Riku, it had only been days,
but in mortal time, it had been about six months since the day of the Guardian
festival. Riku had continued to watch
over his assigned village as well as collect the prayers needed to open the
final door. Riku was still unsure about
the worthiness of his descendant, but at this particular moment, he didn’t
care. This sort of thing reminded him of
his long lost beloved, and that soon they would be reunited in a better
world. A hand was placed on Riku’s
shoulder. He turned to find Aqua
standing right behind him.
“Just can’t let that kid go huh? You’ve
gotten really attached to that kid Riku.
Maybe you’ll get to know him better in the new world.”
“Yeah, speaking of that,” said Riku as they began to fly back to the
Observatory, “Who does make the wish for a better future in the first place?”
“Usually the eldest Guardian, so basically the former King of Hylia. When the great door opens, he walks in and
then, at least according to legend, he touches the golden power and then he
wishes for something and then it is granted.”
“Seems simple enough. And after that?”
“As long as he doesn’t make a selfish wish, the living and the dead will be
reunited in a world with no more pain or inequality, and the only person that
rules is the light. I don’t know for sure,
most of the text has been lost over the years.”
“How could we lose texts? Aren’t we
supposed to be immortal, unable to feel the pains of mortal life?”
“Don’t look at me. Every time I ask the
librarian, he just tells me that they have been missing for about 100,000
mortal years. It doesn’t matter. Just as long as we create a better future for
everybody. Including our
descendants.” Riku took one last look at
Link, and then flew off into the sky. As
the Guardians gathered around the great statue, the elder stepped up with the
last prayers needed to open the great door.
“Great goddesses, ever since the rise of the New Gods, us Guardians have
watched over this world with no promise of finally being a part of the great
dance in the sky with those we love.
When you took up the position of power, you gave us the hope to change
the world for the better. Now, with this
final offering we give you, we open the path to creating a better world.” With that, the final prayer was absorbed into
the statue, and the great gates opened.
For the first time in all the history of the Guardians, the Golden Power
was revealed. It was three golden
triangles connected together at the points.
As the elder began to walk towards it, there was suddenly a loud noise
behind all the guardians. Riku turned to
see a pillar of darkness striking the ground from the sky. Several Guardians drew their swords with
confused and afraid looks on their faces as they approached the figure that now
replaced the dark pillar. The voice
looked up at the open door to the golden power and said,
“You took everything from me and my brothers oh Goddesses. Today I take it all back.” With that, he drew his gigantic sword and
began rushing towards the open door. The
few Guardians unlucky enough to be close to him were chopped up almost
immediately, while others who were slightly luckier tried to face him in combat
and failed. Riku jumped out in front of
the strange man and gave his ultimatum,
“I have waited too long for this day.
You will not destroy my last hope.”
The strange man stood there looking at him for a second, then started to
laugh. Aqua leaped up behind him and
attempted to slash him in the back, but was quickly derailed as the strange
figure whirled around and cast a magic spell that sent her flying. Riku jumped up and they clashed swords for
much longer than previous Guardians were able, but was knocked backwards onto
the ground.
“You have heart young Guardian. Now be
gone.” With that, the strange figure
chanted another spell, and Riku went flying.
As he headed over the edge of the Observatory, he saw the strange figure
walk through the great doors, and reached out for the Golden Power. That was the last he saw before he fell to
the earth.
Link was the happiest man alive. He had just finished his vows with Malon, and
they had just been declared one. They
kissed as was tradition, and began to make their way to their carriage. Normal couples would go out on a weeklong
vacation to the shiny beaches of Winds Breath, but rather, they both agreed
that they would both stay home and work on their ranch. With the two families coming together, they
planned to bring the two ranches together and continue with life as it was,
just with a new married couple in one of the guest bedrooms. As they made their way back to the ranch,
there was a meteor shower in the sky.
Malon wondered at its beauty, but Link was concerned. Nowadays, meteor showers represented the fact
that a Guardian was being accepted as a member of the great dance, but before
that, it was said that it meant that a great darkness was to soon envelop the
land. Suddenly, one of these meteors
crashed only a few hundred yards away from the Ranch of Link and Malon. Link, slightly concerned, dropped off Malon
at the ranch, then rode over to the crash site.
As he got closer, he saw a man limping away from where the meteor hit. Link got off Epona and ran over to the
man. He wore some form of regal armor,
so Link assumed that he was a member of the personal guard of the capital city,
but on closer inspection, he bore no sigil of the Galorian flag. The man stopped as Link was right in front of
him and said,
“You, mortal child, what… what is…your name?”
“Huh? My name is Link sir. Who might you be?”
“Link….answer me this question…”
“Hey buddy, hang in there! We’ll get you
back to my ranch and patch you right up!”
“How….how can you….see… me?” With that,
the stranger collapsed.
