Hope

Another older poem written when I was in Maui. Seems rather apropos for what is going on now.. Freestyle

HOPE....

Precious moments so clear,

a time of hope ...

a time of fear.

There is a time in our lives

when we must give up all lies.

Move on to the truth and enjoy

the time we have left, and 

release the fear

with hope.

I enjoyed reading your poem. Did you perhaps leave out the word "of" from the third sentence? As I read it, it didn't quite flow properly without the word there. But if that was your intention, my apologies. Alexander Pope said "Hope springs eternal in the human breast." We can only "hope" his assertion was accurate. Thanks for sharing you words with us. F.

I, too, am self-taught. I've found that the more I learn, the more I enjoy poetry, and the more fine poetry I read, the better my own becomes.

I would suggest a couple of books if you can find them: The Art of the Poetic Line by Longenbach and Mary Oliver A Poetry Handbook. I would start with the latter as Longenbach is difficult.

I've been to some of your neighboring countries and had hoped to visit Spain - then pandemic problems.

Thank you for you help..I will look for those books..Actually, I am an American. My husband and I move to Costa Blanca North, Spain about a year ago. We plan to live the rest of our lives here. The short poem you read of mine was written about 30 odd years ago.. well, except for the last two lines.. I have a Sonnet that I just wrote and submitted recently..

It is fear and the unknowns that hold us back in life. The sooner we release them like doves the freer our lives become. This is especially true when there are lies and skeletons in the closet involved. Keeping them internally will only eat us away. It's best to speak the truth and forge forward into the future with a hope for happiness. A lovely moral here, Lisa. Love the artwork, too.⚘
