(We’re inside of Emilio’s apartment, he’s looking through his paperwork when Allye and Taylor walk in, he looks up and sees Taylor’s been crying)

 

Emilio

Hi girls, what’s going on?

 

Allye

Taylor just got kicked out of her house

 

Taylor

I’m not going back, not until they realize that this is my choice

 

Emilio

What are you talking about?

 

Allye

Taylor’s pregnant and she wants to have an abortion.

 

(Emilio shakes his head and looks down, we cut to Juan’s apartment and he walks to the living room and grabs a glass from the bar and pours himself a drink when there’s a knock at the door he walks across the room and opens the door and Raquel is standing there)

 

Juan

What  are you doing here?

 

Raquel

I came by to see you, and see how you’ve been.

 

(Juan moves out of the way so she can walk in)

 

Juan

(closing the door) Athens and Samira have been asking about you

 

Raquel

I know, they’re the ones who told me to come by

 

Juan

Why?

 

Raquel

Isn’t it obvious? They want us back together.

 

(Juan sighs then takes a drink)

 

(Fade out)

Scene 2

(We’re with Sarai in her living room, she is reviewing a file when the door bursts open and Jose walks in, he has a light bruise from where Juan punched him)

 

Sarai

What happened to you?

 

Jose

I walked into Juan’s fist

 

Sarai

(turns her attention back to the file) We didn’t see you at the cemetary today

 

Jose

I had previous plans

 

Sarai

Other than going to visit your father?

 

Jose

I don’t know why you even go to see him, the man cheated on you and almost divorced you!

 

Sarai

He realized the mistake he was gonna make and stopped

 

Jose

Yeah that and the fact that you were gonna wring him dry

 

Sarai

Your father loved me, the feelings he had for that tramp that’s now your wife were temporary, and I know he regretted it

 

Jose

(gets up slowly) I’m not sure, but I think your in denial. Especially because you almost killed yourself over him

 

Sarai

(slaps Jose) You need to learn some respect for your mother!

 

Jose

No tengo sustantivo para idiotas!

 

(Jose turns around and leaves and Sarai turns to follow him but her phone rings, she rushes over)

 

 

 

Sarai

Hello? Yes this is Sarai Esperanza. Oh yes I did ask for a test done. The persons tested were Zahar Rodriguez and Taylor Garner. I need to come in for the results? Ok well I guess I can do that.

 

(She hangs up the phone and walks out of the house, we then cut back to Emilio’s apartment where we left off)

 

Emilio

Taylor this is a serious decision.

 

Taylor

My baby was conceived accidentally, and I don’t even remember who the father is.

 

Emilio

But if you were irresponsible enough to do that you need to deal with the consequences, and this isn’t the best way.

 

Allye

Taylor there’s also adoption

 

Taylor

So my kid can come back and haunt me as a mistake I made

 

Emilio

Taylor, I’m not gonna tell you what to do because like you said this is your decision, but I think that keeping this baby could be good for you

 

Allye

I agree

 

Taylor

Why does everyone seem to be against me?

 

Emilio

Because if you do this, it will definitely come back to haunt you, ask your father he deals with patients like this all the time

 

(Taylor looks down and sits on the couch, we then cut to Juan’s house with him and Raquel)

 

Raquel

I can tell you one thing, those two are persistant

 

Juan

I agree with you on that

 

Raquel

So what are you thinking?

 

Juan

That I hate your boss

 

Raquel

Well there’s no love lost there, but you told me that was one of the reasons we could be together

 

Juan

(sits) I can’t give you a real reason ok?

 

Raquel

We had something Juan and it was great if you don’t remember

 

(She looks up and sees a picture of both of them on his shelf)

 

Raquel

You kept that picture?

 

Juan

(turns around and sees the picture) Of course

 

Raquel

Juan I need a good reason, not some lie, on why we can’t be together.

 

(Juan takes a drink from his glass then looks up at her)

 

Juan

Love is something the weak feel, something that breaks you when it doesn’t work out the way you want it to and I don’t want to deal with that

 

Raquel

Don’t say that

 

Juan

Love didn’t work for my parents, it didn’t work for Emilio, so it definitely won’t work for us

 

(Raquel gets mad and starts to walk out, then she turns around before she leaves)

 

Raquel

Why I love you I have no idea, but its something that I won’t wait forever on!

 

(she leaves and Juan turns towards the bookshelf and takes the picture of them two, then slams it onto the ground finishing his drink)

 

(Fade out)

Scene 3

(Sarai walks into an office and is followed by Santino)

 

Santino

I must say this is a very interesting test, what made you wanna take a DNA test

 

Sarai

I’ve never liked Zahar and talking to this girl for 5 seconds I was reminded of her in every way.

 

Santino

Well how are you sure that these samples are even right?

 

Sarai

The sample from Zahar is from coke can I got out of her office-

 

Santino

How do you even know its hers? Sarai this seems like your just trying to cause trouble

 

Sarai

Santino you have to trust me, and she said that she’s adopted which just makes me feel that this could be Zahar’s daughter

 

Santino

Well do you wanna see the results or not?

 

Sarai

You don’t know them?

 

Santino

No, I didn’t even wanna see them when I heard what they were for.

 

Sarai

Look, my gut feeling tells me that this is Zahar’s daughter

 

Santino

But that would make Zahar 15 years old when Taylor was born

 

Sarai

Let’s hope that right

 

(Santino lays back in his chair and sighs we then cut to Emilio’s living room)

 

 

 

Taylor

This baby, if born, would be a big mistake because I have no way of taking care of it or even knowing where to start

 

Allye

You act like you’ll be doing this alone

 

Taylor

I know that, but the fact is I don’t want this baby is making this difficult

 

Emilio

Taylor whatever you choose I will stand by ok?

 

(at that moment Sarai bursts in through the door)

 

Sarai

Emilio I need to talk-(she sees Taylor) Taylor?

 

Taylor

Hello Mrs. Esperanza

 

Sarai

Are you ok?

 

Taylor

Just having some personal problems

 

Emilio

Ama why are you here?

 

Sarai

Well I came to tell you something that I found out and as a matter of fact it concerns Taylor

 

Taylor

Me? What about me?

 

Sarai

I found your mother

 

(the entire room goes quiet as Taylor slowly stands up)

 

(Fade out)

Scene 4

(We’re with Juan in his apartment as he is cleaning up the frame he broke, he goes to a trash can and throws the shards away and goes back to his living room, he sits on the coach and grabs his glass and then has a flashback of him and Raquel, they’re holding hands and walking down a road)

 

Raquel

You don’t know how happy you make me.

 

Juan

You do the same for me, first Emilio marries the love of his life, now I do also

 

Raquel

Do you think that we’ll be able to fight anything?

 

Juan

With you by my side we’ll be invincible

 

(she laughs and they lean in to kiss, we fade back to Juan and he drinks his glass and slams it onto the table, then gets up to walk away and we see the picture of both of them next to the empty glass, then we’re with Raquel inside her apartment. She sits down and opens her suitcase and pulls out a file and then slowly puts it down and starts to cry, we then cut back to Emilio’s apartment)

 

Taylor

My-my mother?

 

Sarai

Yes I found her and she’s been here in Houston this whole time

 

Emilio

Ama, how do you even know that this is right?

 

Sarai

I know I’ve been wanting something like this to happen for awhile, but this is really honest to goodness the truth

 

Taylor

Wait, who is this?

 

Sarai

Taylor, the first time I talked to you I realized you reminded me of someone and it led me to see if this was true and it is.

 

Allye

Wait, grandma are you saying that Taylor’s mother is-

Sarai

Taylor, Zahar Rodriguez is your mother

 

(Taylor’s eyes widen and Emilio and Allye sit down)

 

(Fade out)
