Transient Things
Brown, leather lazy boy .........
comfort.
Worn to fit and
knitted, yellow afghan hanging
black roosters in squares crowing ........
Wild horse winds with
death ...riding the flying dust
Sweeping clean.
It takes.
I pull the straining rope all day
My hands calloused companions as
time whittles the soft fragrant pine.
My long fingers of decision
Chips .........
falling away.
Red, yellow, umber burnt
caress the damp and sky
Mother's clear blue twinkles' gleam
She had no need for words
she spoke language.
These transient things
They are so real.

and yet there is a space between the transiency of our human observations and the transmigration of our souls to other more adaptable paradises. That's why poets use, as a meridian of sacrifice, all the axes of memory to allow the crossing of un-related events to become power: a mothers wisdom, the fragrance of hemlocks, wild horses.

Great poems never asks use why we've been transformed only to believe that such a transformation indeed has happened......dana

But the transient things are the very factors that can shape our attitudes. Technology may dominate our lives, but even that is transient, as it also progresses and modifies itself. Even our writing is a good example of these fleeting thoughts.
Nevertheless though Einstein, I much preferred your more romantic view. :-)

These transient memories and scenes that make us who we are, I don't get why they linger or why we stay attached to them. There was this one time when I was a boy, I rode along with my Granddad to Arkansas to see his dying brother. I don't remember anything about the trip except this one memory of waking up in the middle of the night in the backseat of his old Plymouth and looking out the back window and seeing the biggest crescent red moon that I have ever seen yet in my life. I thought it was a huge angled pipe hanging in the sky that you could almost see through to another world. Yet can barely remember the most important events in my life.
Sorry bout the trip down that old lane. This is great stuff that you do. Not some errant words to read and forget. I'm happy to have read it. CD

I love the use of broken sentences to create vivid images that fire-off in the readers mind. A very powerful tool.

I really love this one more that most of yours! The nostalgic sensations feel like walking thru heavy fog & feeling the cool tingles on the skin -- "yeah, that's it!" . . . and . . . "exactly!" Tho I dress like a country hick, I enjoy watching "Project Runway" becuz of the creative process of the fashion contestants. Last season, one finalist based her collection (shown at NY fashion week) on an old sofa her parents had, all hippy-fied with bright colors & swirls, etc. To watch her transform this multi-colored memory into an outrageously wild collection was so fun. Your poem reminds me of that same kind of thing. You've turned the old things into a brightly-shining nostalgia collection! *smile* Fondly, Margie

Just the word transient is a poem in itself, and so it makes every other word just come to life. You move us through memories and reflections of the world, fading things, passing things. Every color is illuminating.
