Otto Von's Moniker

Otto Von's Moniker

A Chapter by Kenneth The Poet

Nature abhors a
blockage, so much so she moves
it with major force.

But, Man is wiley,
able to hold her at bay
for a little while.

Yet, she is the queen,
able to move in any
direction she wants.

She is also king,
carrying an iron rod,
crushing obstructions.

Peck and Oahe
Fort Randall and Gavins Point
even Garrison.

Her blinding sunlight
melts the Rocky Mountain snows,
causing overflows.

With the flick of her
long fingers, she summons the
heavy, soaking rains.

And down, down they go,
falling like dominoes from
a light, peaceful touch.

Capitol cities,
Indian reservations
become the victims.

For her, there are no
innocents, so no quarter
at all is granted.

And yet, what other
being is inhumane to
itself so simply?

The downstream states have
more power than the states in
the upper basin.

They flooded the homes,
the farms, the towns and the sites
where the held service.

Massive displacement
basically wrote the book on
Native suffering.

And all those earthen
dams have brought long term problems
that are coming due.

Right now, the place with
Otto Von's moniker is
suffering greatly.

And there will be more
to come as the high waters
move further downstream.
