Lyme Disease

Lyme Disease

A Chapter by Kenneth The Poet

The cruel ailment
was found in the grassy fields,
the deer tick havens.

The organism
is twisted, drilling into
brain, bone, lungs and heart.

The damage it does
is extensive, blindness can
be the last outcome.

Many patients think
that the ailment is chronic,
not a short battle.

Insurers refuse
to believe that the ailment
is a lifelong one.

The rules put forth by
the medical body are
just favoring them.

Them being the big
pharmaceutical beasts that
privatized the thing.

Thing being parts and
pieces of the spiraling
organism's code.

People matter not
when the bottom line can be
made all the bigger.

But we are dumb things,
beings that are a virus
to Mother Nature.

We feed without pause,
we replicate virally,
and so she fights back.

She sends us AIDS and
hepatitis and cancer,
even Lyme disease.

A distant cousin
of syphilis, it might be
spread sexually.

The evidence slight,
but if so, people might care
just a little more.

But day in, day out,
they suffer silently so
against the spiral.

Impaired, unable
to move very far, dying
ever so slowly.

Let us pray for an
end to this quiet ailment,
the disease from Lyme.
