Chapter Two: French Men

7:45

I had just finished paying for the boys’ ice cream from Dairy Queen and was back on the main rode that headed toward the school.

“Thanks for the ice cream Azzy!” they said in unison.

I looked in the rear-view mirror and saw them in the backseat laughing while happily eating their frozen treats.

“You’re very welcome, but please just makes sure you hurry to class so that I don’t get in trouble, okay?”

Leo nodded his head right away, and I smiled at him. Leo and I have always been close, regardless of the five and half year age difference. We also looked alike with our medium brown hair that was very curly, our natural Italian olive skin, and athletic features.  We even had the same personality, given he was a bit more of a “happy go lucky” type person.

Vince had said nothing, so when I stopped at a red light, I turned around to face him.

“Well..?”

Unable to take my stare, Vince turned to face the window and mumbled what I assumed was something along the lines of an “okay.”

I laughed knowing fully well that I was beginning to annoy him. Vincenzo never had a good temper in the first place, but he still got mad in record timing. I thought he needed to lighten up a little more, but my parents just chose to ignore it. Secretly, I thought they were part of the reason why he was the way he was.

I mentally slapped myself for thinking about my family problems. I hated seeing them happen, talking about them, and thinking about them. They made me so angry and frustrated because there was little I could do.

Damn it! There I go again. God, I need some music or something to get my mind off of my stupid problems. I began to skim through my CDs. Hmm, who to listen to?

All Time Low? Nah.

John Mayer? Not in the mood…

The voice of Bryce Avary filled the speakers. I smiled and began to sing out the lyrics. The Rocket Summer never failed to brighten up my mood. The beats were amazing! It made me want to dance around and sing until I couldn’t any longer.

“Hearts need a beat, like awake needs asleep
Like a pen needs a page, to learn right you need a mistake

Oh, yeah!

Hearts need a mind, like a clock needs a time
Like white needs black, if you leave I hope you need to come back…”

“Az?”

“Che ora Vincenzo?”

“Mind unlocking the door so that we can get out?”

Why would I do…oh. We were in front of the 17th Street Academy Middle School building. I guess I was to into the music to notice.

“God Azzurra! Today maybe?!” Vince said nastily. He was defiantly more than just annoyed.

“Oh yea, sure. Umm, see you guys later. Be good.”

Vince ignored me and walked off to go to his group of friends, but Leo gave me a quick side hug. “Thanks for the ride, Azzy, and for the ice cream.”

I smiled. “Anytime Leo, now get going before you make us both late.”

He smiled and waved one last time before disappearing into the crowd.

I pulled away from the middle school building and went even further into the school’s campus to the high school building. It took about five minutes to get to one building to the next by car. Sometimes it only took three, but that was only when pick-up and drop-off wasn’t going on for the middle and elementary schools.

As I pulled into the student parking area, I couldn’t help but smirk. The faces of the people that watched my car go by them were priceless. Jealousy was clearly visible on most faces, mainly the guys. Others just had that look of confusion as if people didn’t own classic cars anymore. Still laughing after I had parked, I grabbed the keys and my backpack then began making my way toward the school.

I wasn’t alone for even a minute when a rather tall blonde came bounding her way through the crowds of people in my direction.

“EEEECK! ZIGGY!” she shrieked girlishly and embraced me in a bone crushing hug.

“Mads..Mads..MADS! You’re crushing me!”

“Oh, Azzy! I’m sooooo sorry! I’m just so happy to be back home and seeing everyone!”

From lack of breath, I simply nodded as I bent over in attempts to recover. Damn she could give some intense hugs. I felt as if I had just run 20 miles!

“Azzurra there is SO much I have to tell you! Paris was amazing! I don’t get why you don’t like it. Everyone was super nice, and the boys there were incredibly

hot! I wish we could’ve stayed longer than just the weekend.”

I snickered. Paris amazing? My a*s. Any town in Italy is better than that hell hole. I smiled anyway, praying Madi didn’t notice any sarcasm in my voice.

“I’m sure it was a fantastic trip, but class starts in three minutes. I promised Mrs. G that I wouldn’t be late, so can we continue this in class?”

“Sure!”

God, her voice was way to cheerful for a Monday morning.

“Pssst! Ziggs!”

“What?!”

Madi just tossed a note on my desk then faced the front of the room, pretending she was actually listening to Mrs. McMurry’s stupid lecture on some Biology thing. I rolled my eyes and unfolded the note that had my special nickname, Ziggy, printed on it.

Ahhh! So anyway back to the hot Paris men. I met one! ;)

Oh lord. Another one? You just broke up with Kevin Friday!

I know I know, but Azzy, this guy is wonderful! He’s smart, funny, and HOT.

That’s what you said about Kevin….hold up. If he’s from Paris than how’d you talk to him? You don’t speak French.

Oh silly Azzurra. He’s from America. DUH. He just happened to be staying in the pent house below us. ;)

Oh, well I’m really happy for you. :]

Thanks! Now enough about me! How’d your weekend go?!

The usual, I went to the beach house and then had a soccer game on Saturday.

 Did you win?!

Mhmm, 3-2. I scored the winning goal!!

Don’t you always? lol. Any hotties watching?

I guess, I wasn’t really paying attention to the crowd…

Madi sent a reply back but I didn’t bother to open the note again. I knew exactly what she was going to say. She says it every time I come in contact with a boy. “Azzurra Aurora Zuccherini, how dare you not introduce yourself to those boys! They are practically on their knees, and you don’t even give them a second glance! It is very rude and inconsiderate.” If she only knew, if she only realized what pain I went through after my last relationship…

A series of crackles came from the intercom which stopped everyone from doing what they were doing, including Mrs.McMurry.

“Mrs.McMurry?” a voice questioned.

“Yes?”

“Could you please send Miss Zuccherini down to the office. She has a call waiting for her. ”

My head snapped up in a matter of milliseconds. Who on this green earth would call me at school during first period?

“Please tell her to hurry. They said it’s urgent.”

Wow, your characters are so rounded- so wonderfully real that I feel like I know them! Azzurra is someone that I think alot of girls can easily relate to- except for the Paris bashing (: P) haha My family are all immigrants from France ~~~ t(. _ .t) ~~~ You're a great writer though, and I look forward to reading more of your stuff.

***A LITTLE SIDE NOTE***

It has come to my attention that this particular chapter is very crude towards France and the people in it, from it, or just over all like it. Please forgive me, I do not mean anything horrible to your culture and heritage. That is just my character, Azzurra, and her family's opinion on that country. It is the way she is in my mind, and again I'm terribly sorry if it is rude. :[
