PARCHED EARTH

PARCHED EARTH

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

a drought....

"

PARCHED EARTH

Halcyon twilight

purple, orange hues stripe the atmosphere

with mysterious messages

passionate sky of wispy clouds propels gently

Acacia tree partially obscures sleepy sun

lone shadow image

cerebrates in solitude

hush only lips convey

creatures of the clod behold

Wearied mountains and valleys of demise

wilted weeds a devise of cracks

black earth parched and thirsty

the silhouette pleads for rain to her supreme spirits

all night beasts appeal to the Gods of creation

I am reminded of the painting The Scape Goat by Holman Hunt in the visuals so excellently painted here. But then again there is also the extra message. Beautifully written poem about a terrible subject.

Heavy imagery here, B. Really suggests the devastation that drought leaves behind. I fear climate change will cause more of this grim phenomenon.

Beautiful words to describe an ugly and terrifying natural occurrence. As destructive as a hurricane or tornado but a slow strangulation of the land and everything on it.
