Too Few ...

Too Few ...

A Chapter by Dave "Doc" Rogers

More masters and ladies of the quill!

"
Too few, so few ...

Fewer and fewer people are communicating via the printed or e-media. Writing and language beyond the happy 600 most commonly used words are becoming a lost art. And there are those that write ... it's drivel but it's writing. Then there are those I truly enjoy. They study the craft of language and put serious thought into what it is they are going to say. Then they write. Those are fun. Serendipitiously fun due to their rarity and good fortune in finding them. I sound literarily snobbish. I am not. Having a capacity to learn and communicate, should we not?

We must continue to encourgae writing and writers. Find a new or young writer and encourage them onwards. It's a new habit I am trying to form. Engage in a workshop and encourage the 'newbie' that they can write.

To write well requires effort. The only ones who make it look easy spent considerable time in study and practice to make it look so easy.

Fear not, dear reader, if aspirations are the pen and its might, persist in doing well. Despite multitudinous words to the contrary, it works.

Cheers! And write!
Doc.

I absolutely love that you used "serendipitously"! The root is one of my favorite words! Did you know it originated from the title of a fairy tale "The Three Princes of Serendip"?

I absolutely miss the way books, essays, even newspaper articles used to be written. The writing was so eloquent! I have noticed my vocabulary shrinking - I used to write much more when I was still in grade school, and a 1950 Roget's Thesaurus was my best friend. Now, I am frequently guilty of not going beyond those 600 most common words. Thanks for the challenge to change that.

To raise a tear or cause a smile, to make the reader stay a while, Or as a great orator said Smaller words get through more heads (Churchill) I write to share my living
