Reverie.

Reverie.

A Poem by Fay Slimm

REVERIE.

Between sleep and wakefulness
hangs morning twilight.
A no-time and no-where place
whose stirring shards, like hardened ice
pierce warm languid sighs with cold.

Between dawn and reveille
lies reverie's need.
A dreamless and drowsy state
with ideas, which like motes fly unseen
to revoke sloth with short notice.

Between planes of rouse and retreat
yawns dawdle-dimension.
A pre-rise site of wait-machines
where doze re-uses slumber's intention
until liveliness takes control.

You are intelligent and bright dear Fay! it's that place where everything is possible, where dreams come true, it's where we revive our brains and hearts to act in the way our higher self want to, not in the way our bodies want to, in meditation we seek that spot of no time or place, the present now, we surrender to it so miracles can take place and happen in our lives, You've gorgeously described it in these brilliant ethereal words.

So one must wonder what is that state between sleep and wake..is that when we dream best??
So, is that when we are truly aware and our dreams do come true..
How many seek this peaceful time.. a moment of true peace..
our lives held in that brief moment...where there is nothing..
Such an excellent read and one to ponder.

This is deep poetry. The dawn while one us still inactive and under sleep's spell seems to be a quiet state but actually a lot of regeneration is going on under the sleep's cover. Before the day takes over and burst upon us all its rush of activity. The mist unravels and the fog lifts and sheer activity begins to heat everything up. For me mornings are religious and spiritual times.

Thank you for this interesting poetry and nice to meet you.
A beautiful evocation of the hypnogogic state. And certainly as real and layered as they are.

And a big thank you Ken for this engaging review of Reverie.
I've never seen a poem about this part of one's day! And you've pegged it perfectly! It's a time when I sorta want to go back to sleep & I sorta want to get up, but instead we linger in this nether-mind. I love your uninhibited imaginative wordplay: reveille/reverie . . . rouse/retreat . . . dawdle-dimension . . . on & on! You make these few moments into the long sigh that it feels to be when we're in it! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Glad I caught up with your kind review Moon - so pleased you liked the piece on Reverie.
Sometimes it is ecstasy to be 'caught in the moment' of unselfish bliss! Lovely imaginative piece; great stanza structure and wordplay - a great read my friend ... :-)

There could hardly be a more poetic portrayal of the "reverie" state.
A lyrical, insightful and entertaining piece of work!

This is a fascinating offering about a mental state we all have experienced but about which little is known. Sometimes called the alpha level, it lies between wakefulness and sleep and is the source of much creativity. The poet describes it with skillful imagery which, if read in a certain way and in a certain atmosphere, might actually induce the state. All the verses are very soothing to read. Think I'll seek the "dawdle dimension" tonight after I lay me down.

Love your poetic description of the transitory moment after we are no longer sleeping but not yet awake. A fantastic study in metaphor:)

Thanking you Pryde for your visit and lovely review - - glad you enjoy that state of Reverie too.
Fay, I treasure this state you've so eloquently described here. It's where imagination first reveals itself, in the calm, coolness of a silent place. I'd never read it described in such way, but it seems perfect. Remarkable work!
