Earthshaker

Earthshaker

A Chapter by Guavaguy

I was napping quietly
In the wooden hut I had built myself.
The earth was still,
Nothing could happen I thought.
But the calm was easily broken,
By the giant called Earthshaker,
Who stomps the ground in ritual dance.
Earthquakes come in response,
And just as I had fled,
My hut was shattered
And broken and bent,
And rage built within me, for I knew he was sent by Dagoth:
To find me and bind me up in madness.
So I fled as the woods toppled under Earthshaker's feet,
And all the forest tarried,
So that I may escape his gargantuan wrath.
I ran for the stone and the woods swallowed me in darkness.
In pitch black, I entered the signet as the tremors grew stronger,
And held my breath as I fell through the forest floor.
I fell for quite a time, and when I landed there were no more earthquakes.
Here I came upon my spellbound prison cell,
Weak from a hundred years of abuse without upkeep,
And I took a mace from the corner,
And smashed the bars in two.
Now here I was,
Alone in the darkness,
Cold and battered and bruised,
But here I was,
Safe from the giant and Dagoth,
And I knew only that I could never live a life
Hidden and safe
As long as Dagoth lived,
For his fear was great that if he left me be,
Then I would one day find and slay him.
So here I set about to find my way out of my prison
And to the world of light.
So I wandered for what must have been months in the icy darkness,
Living on spiders and rats, and I came one day to a pool of ice.
I was maddened,
So I smashed the ice and looked for my reflection,
But all I saw was the face of my beloved, staring back at me
In the icy din.
Suddenly, I knew there was a ladder nearby.
I climbed till I was weary, and just when I could climb no more,
I found a trapdoor.
My eyes hurt as I hauled myself into the world of light.
There was no forest for as far as I could see.
To the east, a great ocean,
Perhaps leading to the edge of the world,
Where waterfalls would fall from the heavens to the depths of hell.
And to the west was an endless plain.
It seemed my destiny lay at the end of the rainbow,
For rain had fallen here,
And colors streaked the sky.
I looked to my feet and saw sand,
I was on a beach.
