Chapter 3

She opened her eyes in a strange place. It was dark, and damp, and the pain was ever present. She was still alive, somehow she had made it out alive. I must leave she thought this isn’t right, this isn’t how it is supposed to happen. She had accomplished the only goal left in her sad life, and that was to evade her enemy and prove that he was a fool. Once she had rebelled, she would escape with her injuries that her oppressor had inflicted on her and travel to the peacefully dying Earth, where she too, would pass. Her people and those across the known universe would forever praise her name for being the only one to ever escape the imposing hands of the Master. She would die quickly, for surely without treatment her wounds would kill her, and pass into a new realm while the sweet taste of victory still lingered on her tongue. Her last thoughts would be the freedom that came with dying on her own terms, and not in the eternal prison of the Master. She would pass, but her name would remain immortal, a light to those still bound by the chains of slavery.

But that plan had been flawed. She was in a place made of dirt, with a high ceiling and perfectly rounded walls, and she was still breathing. She looked over her body and saw that she had been neatly bandaged, her arm was in a makeshift sling and there was a patch over her left eye, which she found to be quite painful to tear off, so she let it remain there for the time being. Through a small opening of rocks just big enough to fit a person, she saw that it continued to pour rain outside. She struggled to the exit and squeezed herself through it, careful not to touch her arm, which burned with pain. She looked up to admire the structure she had departed from. It was a tall rocky hill, and a pathetic and rusted skeleton of what appeared to be a track was scattered all about it. Apparently it was just too difficult to simply go around it. The tracks lead straight into the cave, and did not appear to continue their distorted line beyond the hill, and she shuddered at the thought of the dead rotting bodies of humans still decaying in the depths of the cave. She turned and continued to walk painfully forward in the rain. She had decided that she had best get as far away from the lair as possible, in case the one that had taken her there decided to come back. Through her blurred vision she saw a river, flooded by the excess rain. She decided to follow it for a while, until she heard a snap of a twig behind her. She whipped around to see the same figure she recognized from countless nights before. She hissed at him with the ferocity of an animal,

“Stay away from me! I’m warning you… don’t touch me.” He put his hands up in surrender,

“I was just wondering where you were going, you won’t get very far in the condition you’re in.” The spinning of the rain was making her head worse, and already, in just the few yards she had traveled from the lair, she felt as if a weight of many bricks had been placed onto her chest. She glared at him, his eyes were red and almost appeared to glow even through the sheet of rain.

“You really shouldn’t be out here…” he said, trying to move towards her.

“Leave me alone!” She spat, recoiling from his outstretched hands. Just let me die in peace…

“I cannot just leave you out here like this…” Bella reached for the hilt of her sword,

“You’ll not take me back without a fight.” She lunged towards him, but the world was spinning too fast. She fell to her knees, using her sword as leverage to try to steady herself. No sooner did she stand on her shaky legs than she collapsed onto the muddy ground. There was no strength left in her to fight him as he lifted her up,

“It’s okay… I can carry you without too much trouble,” he said. Blackness clouded the edges of her vision, I must try again tomorrow… I will try again tomorrow…and she slipped into the blackness.
