Whatever's Next

Whatever's Next

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Does it really matter?

"

A religious man says “Heaven”

To lighten up Death’s mood

While in the realm of science

You’re claimed to be worm food

Either way it shouldn’t matter

As through this Life you plod

If you meet a total end

Or if you meet your God

Here we are, in the Now

A page in Life’s vast journal

Make it count, your Now, Today...

Repercussions are eternal

The play between two ideas in each stanza is marvelous. I am really enjoying your style. The undertones of what is and what could be. Nicely done, my friend.

Thank you so much, FG! Truly appreciated.
Carpe Diem - grab that fish ... (hah - spell checker asked if I meant Crap Diem....lolol)
I loved reading this Rita - a veritable wake up call and one that I wish I could adhere to just because I KNOW it would make a difference. But I procrastinate too much.
A great verse of wisdom that should be everyones screensaver

:) quite a good write. I agree with the point the poem makes. It doesnt matter if there's a God demanding one to do good, threatening with hellfire... just do it anyway :) Good write

Thank you, Rocans. I wasn't going for blasphemy, just a simpler way to look at it all... :)
says it all really...We all speculate....We can't ALL be right but being human..we ALL THINK THAT WE ARE

Of course everyone can't be right. So, let's just agree that I am... ;) Thanks, Doc!
i absolutely agree with this ...live for today...make the most...we don't know what will happen after this life...could be heaven, hell or whatever...but then again, we might just go into the ground or to ashes...and that is all she wrote.

Yep - so make it count! Thank you for reading!
A very serene and deliberate write. I quite enjoyed the second stanza, it really had me from the beginning, but the middle was the golden moment, as it were. Nicely done!

Thank you! Appreciate your review. :)
i like this because i believe in the here and now. there is no proof of anything beyond this existence, i am not criticizing those who have "faith" but i think it foolish to blindly follow an unproven "promise" or outcome based on how we live our lives. for that reason, and because this is so well written, this one goes in my faves.

This is well written, I like the flow and your rhyme scheme.
It makes such a true statement, though, if you focus too much on what happens after this life, you'll miss out on everything that is actually happening right in front of you.
Great way to say, 'quit worrying and just live!'
